This is designed as a scavenger hunt for the students to begin to evaluate and justify some of the things that were the legacy of the Roman Empire in Britain. The list is by no means comprehensive, there can be additions. The concept was to get them to begin to consider what was left. This was then used to get the students to reasearch and/or come up with a poster about their choice. There are some serious ones and some not so serious ones. Please adapt and share!

The power point is altered and adapted from the original by ESKIMOMELON (thanks for that). There are posters to be stuck up around the room and students are to investigate, then pair and share the ideas to enable them to complete a card sort. Initially this is on a Venn diagram (the slide from the power point will need printing) and then to be prioritised into a 'diamond nine' exercise. These can be modelled and so a slide that has historical language and connectives on it.

A reworked presentation of mine that draws on elements from other presentations. A wordsearch and a story board added. Alongside a very simple information sheet that I use to get the students to draw a story board of the most important six parts of the story. I then go on to discuss the significance of the story and why the Romans would want to use it.

A lesson that looks at passive and active resistance to slavery. Leads on to a good discussion about the form that resistance could take. Asks for definitions and also evaluations of what and why. The final slide is a copy of the lyrics to 'swing low sweet chariot' and is the lead in to a slave spirituals lesson (to follow)

This is an adapted powerpoint and work from another teacher, so thanks if that's you. The students are to look at the consequences of the Black death and consider the factors that they can be split up into and look at the ideas surrounding the concept that was the Black Death all bad? An additional sheet is added to look at the impact. The powerpoint includes sheets that would need to be copied.

A chronology exercise where they colour code a map indicating what regions were made part of the Roman Empire and when. They are then to complete a piece of writing indicating what conclusions they can draw from the map. These conclusions can range from merely where the Roman empire was to periods of rapid growth.

A quick lesson that takes in the chronology of four maps that should convey to the students the growth of the empire, these are to be stuck down in chronological order and then commented on. A sentence or so may do.<br /> <br /> The students are then to identify people within the empire and produce available. Moving on to what benefit the empire gave to Rome and subsequently what benefits the Empire gave to the provinces within it.

This was designed as a lesson to look at the impact of the Peasants revolt. It is not totally in depth, but is meant to get the students to consider if it was all worth it? Did it bring about change? <br /> <br /> It was originally only meant to take about half an hour, but it could be easily expanded into a more in depth analysis.<br /> <br /> In the end, if it means that someone does not have to reinvent the wheel and use this as a starting point, then great. Please feel free to adapt and share the results.

This is something I knocked together for a quick 25 minute session. I have ensured that they students will be busy. There is a quiz, quiz trade. This is followed by the students mind mapping the answer to a 10 mark question and then swapping the mind maps over and feeding back on what is good and what can be done to improve. The qqt are on different ppt's so that you can turn the paper over and print on both sides. Handouts 2 to a slide work well. Not all originally my work, but assembled like this by me.

These various resources on castles are VERY OLD and are not meant as a lesson per ce. An overview/quick lesson on conditions in the Trenches. Starts with a literacy exercise and builds from there. There is information about the structure of the trenches and then conditions in the trench. A scavenger activity which is aimed to give the students some background to what the village is like before they then go on and look in more depth about the village. They are to get some basic information and then produce what they consider to be a hierarchy of people in the village. This is meant as an introduction only that the students will then build upon and explore.

A quick lesson that introduces the idea that history is not just in the past, but how it shapes the future. It was an 'introduction' to the concepts of the most significant events or inventions of the 20th Century. The students then researched and came up with their own ideas. It was as a spur to getting the students to think about more than just the obvious.

This is designed as a quick 30 minute task to introduce the concepts of significance and different interpretations. These are really simplified sheets and I included Hitler to get the discussion going about can a bad person have a positive impact? Uniting Europe against him, developments in technology and medicine. Is it moral to use the creations of a immoral regime? Students are encouraged to think outsdide the box and identify their own individual and then research them after the initial exercise.

A quick lesson to look at the structure and organisation of the Anglo Saxon army. The book refered to is the Warfare and the impact of warfare book from Edexcel. However, any book that contrasts the Fyrd and Huscarls would do.

A scavenger hunt to look at the impact of the blitz on Sheffield. Original idea from elsewhere and altered greatly. The students are to consider what might have been the target of the German bombing and then look at the information and evaluate if the Germans did actually target that and if the raid was a failure or a success.
