Following the VIPERS approach, I have created this visually attractive and stimulating resource for the first couple of pages of Vashti Hardy’s ‘Brightstorm’. The powerpoint is editable, meaning that you can adapt the slides to suit your cohort’s individual learning needs, or continue the learning in further ‘Brightstorm’ Guided Reading lessons. Children will use key reading skills to answer the questions laid out on the slides, with challenge questions included to extend learning for early finishers.

Here are the first two Guided Reading lessons I have created around Vashti Hardy’s ‘Brightstorm’ novel. Recommended for Year 6 learners. These interactive slides feature questions in the VIPERS format, where children can practice their retrieval, inference and other core reading skills. Lots of partner and table talk is encouraged throughout these slides, allowing you to assess your cohort’s comprehension of the text. Additional challenge questions are provided on each slide, to extend the learning of children that finish early. The slides have been designed to imitate the ‘Brightstorm’ book cover, offering a visually appealing and stimulating aid to assist your whole-class Guided Reading sessions.
