<p>A complete revision guide for GCSE English Language (8700)<br /> The guide is designed to help students work independently, or in class when revising for the GCSE English language exam.<br /> I have attended various AQA training courses on this specification and the advice given is strictly based on AQA recommendations and guidance.<br /> It walks students through the two exams, and contains the following:</p> <ul> <li>A clear description of what each paper involves, i.e the number and kind of texts that will appear in the exam along with details of the reading and writing tasks.</li> <li>Step-by-step guide on answering each question.</li> <li>Guidance on time-management</li> <li>Details of the non-fiction texts that can come up and the minimum learners need to do to show an understanding of the text.</li> <li>Essential terminology of language and structure along with definitions and examples.</li> <li>Examples of persuasive writing.</li> <li>Model answers</li> </ul>

<p>The pack contains two 1.5 houre lessons that have been designed as an introduction to GCSE English but can be easily adapted to teach reading and writing skills at any time throughout the academic year.<br /> The following resources are included:<br /> A PowerPoint containing ice breakers as well as an overview of the course.<br /> There is a jargon-busting clear explanation of AO1.<br /> A range of activities designed to teach the key skills of inference and language techniques.<br /> A handout containing easy to understand definitions of essential language terminology for GCSE English language.<br /> There is a starter activity designed to capture learning from the previous lesson and to practise the skill of inference.<br /> A diagnostic assessment has also been included.</p>

<p>A PowerPoint to assist you in giving feedback to your students on their mock exam for Paper 2. It has been designed specifically for the AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2 and can work with any text from any past paper. <p>A complete lesson with a PowerPoint and picture prompts: one with boxes drawn on in order to encourage students to zoom in on different aspects of the picture.<br /> Also included is a detailed worksheet with explanations and examples of descriptive and creative writing techniques and a bank of words and phrases that learners can use to make their writing interesting.<br /> The editable resource also contains an original story that can be used in two ways: learners can be asked to analyse the story, take inspiration from it and to also suggest improvements. Alternatively, it can be given out without the last two paragraphs and learners can be asked to write an ending.</p>

<p>A complete lesson on creative writing including a PowerPoint and a worksheet containing a range of fun activities and tasks that will stretch your learners. A little bit of maths has also been embedded into the lesson.</p> <p>This resource has been designed with GCSE English language in mind, but can be easily adapted to teach creative writing for key stage 3, or 5.</p> <p>Students can also use this resource when working independently. The only change would be to the peer-assessment activity, which can either be skipped or completed as an additional self-assessment task.</p>

<p>A complete lesson on AQA Paper 2 quesion 2. It includes a PowerPoint and comparison sheets in the style of Venn diagrams, one of which is editable and can be filled in with your students in class. You could get one of them to do the typing in order to make the lesson more interactive. Ideas on how these can be used in different ways included in the PowerPoint.</p> <p>AQA Sams 4 insert and mark scheme needed- links have been included in the PowerPoint. Instructions on how the mark scheme should be used have been included in the PowerPoint.</p>

<p>A very handy revision resource that will help your students revise and apply that much-needed subject terminology. Activities included have been designed to help GCSE students revise and practise the language analysis and the creative writing question.<br /> A model answer to the language question has also been included.<br /> There is also a bank of words to assist learners with their vocabulary choices and to make the process of creative writing that much easier.<br /> Ideal for Easter/half-term revision. Can be used for independent study as well.<br /> The lesson has been designed with the AQA GCSE English 8700 specification in mind, however it will work very well with any other UK GCSE English specification regardless of the examining body, as the assessment objectives come from Ofqual and are the same for all UK examining bodies.<br /> You will need to source the extract that goes with the reading task. It is the opening paragraph of The Handmaid’s Tale and should be easily available from the Internet or from your school/college library. I am sorry but I could not include the extract here owing to copyright reasons.</p>

<p>A PowerPoint planned around Eduqas Component 1 June 2018 paper. Starters, plenaries and everything between the two has been included. A lot of helpful ideas for weaker learners to have the confidence that they are answering the questions correctly. Differentiated lesson that gives your more able learners enough to keep them engaged and stretched. Homework activities have also been included.<br /> A link to the relevant exam paper has been included in the PowerPoint, which means that you can access the text very easily.</p>

<p>Two complete lessons planned around the June 2019 extract from The Mill by H.E.Bates. The lesson includes a PowerPoint that guides you through the teaching of two lessons based on the selected extract. Starters and plenaries have been incorporated within the worksheet provided and the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint also contains a link to two websites, one where you can find the extract needed, and the other for the revision of subject terminology.</p> <p>There is also a complete overview of the reading section of the paper.</p> <p>With minor tweaks the lessons can be adapted to teach the skills needed for any exam board.</p> <p>These resources can also be used by students for independent study and are guaranteed to enhance their understanding of the skills needed to be successful in GCSE English language, and will certainly enable them to revise efficiently for their exam.</p>

<p>A complete GCSE English language lesson on descriptive writing.<br /> The following are included:<br /> A PowerPoint that clearly explains the 40 mark writing question in Section B of AQA GCSE English language Paper 1.<br /> A worksheet designed to support students throughout the process of writing this piece with the help of descriptive writing techniques and with a list of vocabulary provided that will enable them to write confidently and fluently about a carnival that is to be the setting of their story. A range of vocabulary choices and phrases have been provided to make it easy for budding writers to depict clearly and effectively the experiences and emotions of their protagonists.</p>
