1= Introductory lesson to the new AQA Power and Conflict poetry cluster.

Bands 4-6 mark scheme covered and introducing the key themes.

2 = Exploring language devices in poetry.
This lesson is designed to be used with the new AQA English language course.
It looks at teaching Language Paper 1 Question 3.

The lesson involves students working through an extract in groups in an interactive way to make sense of the structure of the extract. The aim is to ask students to start independently applying their learning whilst having useful prompts to help them to achieve this goal. I have used this lesson with my mixed ability group year 10 in preparation for their mock and it worked really well. It's important to group students 'kagan style' to allow for higher ability students to work with and guide those who might struggle with the question.
PPT and all resources included.
A resource created for a year 8 set working at current levels of between 5b-6a for an hour period.
This lesson uses a popular radio stations 'rage against the machine' feature to inspire students to write to express a strong opinion.
Terminology such as: 'hyperbole/ superlatives etc' are introduced in this lesson in a fun an interactive way - students will be required to move around the room to gather information and will have access to a sound clip from the show for inspiration to start working on their own writing.
The lesson also has a speaking and listening element built in as the students showcase their work.
