Gap filling activity from a 2016 news article about the Valedictorian speech of a young undocumented Mexican student (Larissa Martínez).
It includes:
- a Word document (text with gaps and a box with the missing words) and a text with the answers. It has two versions (one with key vocabulary included the other one without -differentiation opportunity).
- a Power Point with an introduction to the activity: a link to a 8 minutes youtube clip (Valedictorian speech), the vocabulary and the article with the answers (same as Word doc), and a few suggestions to further exploit the activity (I am sure every teacher will find more!).
Objectives:
- Raise awareness about the situation of young undocumented immigrants
- Reflect on reasons people are in favour / against immigration
- Build up / revise topic related vocabulary
- Practice gap filling (grammar, strategies)
- Inspirational 18 year old student (resilience, overcome difficulties)
