This activity is essentially a game / competition that can either be used as a starter or an entire lesson, and can be repeated many times.

The basic rules of the game are as follows:

1.Complete as many postcards as possible
2.Each postcard is scored according to difficulty
3.The pupil/s with the highest total/s at the end wins a prize

The postcards cover a range of musical skills including theory, composition, historical and contextual understanding, genre, and instrumental techniques. They can be used just for fun as an end of term activity or even a cover lesson, but can also have a real purpose as an ice-breaker for a new class instead of a baseline test.

They are fairly advanced for GCSE (most GCSE pupils would be completing 3-5 point cards), but they provide a real stretch and challenge for particularly creative and advanced pupils.

Pupils will become particularly competitive if prizes are on offer!
