A resource to create a memory game to see knowledge and understanding in handball - positions and court markings.
A warm up game for school children learning handball that tests knowledge of court/lines and handball positional roles – great starter for recall of knowledge. It encourages teams to work together and use problem solving skills and communication. A twist on the pairs/memory card game.
“Handball Match” memory game rules
• Cut each page in half to create 25 cards.
• Place these face down at one end of the sports hall.
• Create 4 teams of equal numbers.
• Players numbered 1-5 for example in each team
• One Ball per team
• On whistle blast player 1 dribbles ball to end, stops and can turn over 2 cards. If they “match” keep them and take back to own team for a “goal”
• If don’t match put them back face down and dribble back to team.
• If pick a “goal” card take it and put other card back face down.
• Discuss with team on your return position of cards etc
• Number 2 goes… Repeat as above
• Number 3 goes …Repeat as above
• Until all cards have been collected and all goals scored once checked.
• Minus one if incorrect pair collected!
• Extension task– have one player acting as a defender players have to get past to even try and score!!
