Since completing a degree in computer science, I went on to teaching and have done this for many years. I am now working in a secondary school teaching computer science to KS4.
Over the years I have developed resources that I have used in the classroom and know how difficult it can be to find suitable resources. I thought it would be great to share these.
This is a course for ICT Functional Skills. I used this with 17 to 18 year olds in further education.
I have included all teacher PowerPoint presentations, worksheets and the scheme of work.
The units included are:
Unit 1 Making the most of your computer
Unit 2 Managing Information - Passwords and viruses
Unit 3 Finding and selecting information
Unit 4 to 7 Excel Spreadsheets (Basic Formulas, IF Functions, Absolute function, Lookup formula)
Unit 8 Working with Microsoft Word
Unit 9 Combining and presenting information
Unit 10 Using ICT to communicate
I hope that you will find this helpful in the classroom. All presentations are easily adaptable as well the worksheets.
Some of the Excel worksheets have been used on older versions of Excel, however they have recently been checked to the most updated version of Excel and do work fine.
Hi, I had found the numbers and charts ppt, but the introduction slide states, 'We have looked at spreadsheets that can be used for storing and organising records.'? The only inclusion of a spreadsheet before this point (as far as I can see) is a worksheet 'digital divide' for unit 3 which includes an exercise in excel. I can always shoe in my own introduction to spreadsheets, just thought I may have missed something somewhere. Thank's for your reply, the pack has still been very helpful indeed!

Hi Unit 4 should start with working with numbers and charts, there is a ppt that is available to start with. Everything should be there in the files, I have just checked. If you also look at the learning outcomes that should help too. Let me know if you still need help

Hi I see the first ppt for unit 4 says “We have looked at spreadsheets that can be used for storing and organising records.” I think that’s from discussion of a previous unit, as this is how you start to teach spreadsheets from now on. Should all be in order, but I can see what you mean. Please add in whatever you need, it’s been a long time since I taught this. I’m really pleased it is helping you.
