


This Introduction to Keyboards booklet is designed to start give students a solid grounding in how to use the keyboard. It has every resource you would need for the entire project including space for starter questions, introductions to rhythmic notation, melodic notation, composition, playing with 2 hands and an assessment.
Breakdown of what the booklet contains is the following:
- Flexible pages for starter questions.
- Lesson 1: Introduction to rhythms including semibreve, minim, crotchet and quaver (reading and writing notation)
- Lesson 2: Using rhythms on the keyboard, including introduction to using right hand and using all 5 fingers on the keyboard.
- Lesson 3&4: Introduction to melodies on the keyboard, including 4 melodies which gradually increase in challenge.
- Lesson 5&6: Reading melodies - combining understanding of pitch and rhythm over previous 4 lessons to work out some well known tunes (decoding and performing task)
- Lesson 7: Composing my own tune, using specific notes for the right hand.
- Lesson 8: Composing/Notation tasks which are then played, adjusted and performed.
- Lesson 9&10: Adding the left hand to the right hand, with two tunes they used for Lesson 3&4. Students have to play the right hand part, then practice the left and then add the left hand in with right hand.
- Lesson 11&12: Assessment task: Using everything students have learnt
There is a mid unit knowledge test on rhythms and notation (treble clef only).
Finally after the practical assessment, there is success criteria and a feedback grid, and finally a Knowledge Organiser for the back page.
