Miss Minto’s Musical Moment Number 26 – Five Elise

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klh6V9ltNHM

Fur Elise by Beethoven but jazzed up by Syd R Duke and called Five Elise.

The time signature is 5/4 and the style is from a famous jazz piece by Dave Brubeck called Take 5.

The introduction is very similar to the beginning of Take 5.

Normally, Fur Elise has three beats in each bar.

Changing it to have five beats in each bar of music makes the rhythm of the music change quite dramatically and gives it a jazzy feel.

Try counting the five beats for each bar.

5 year old Cheryl plays the traditional version of Fur Elise.

Try counting the three beats for each bar.

NB: During online learning I have been producing Miss Minto’s Musical Moments. These are freely available for use with pupils and are suitable for primary aged children. Some will appear on TES and some on the Facebook page for Notable Songs Ltd. Search using: “Miss Minto’s Musical Moments”. There are several dozen “Musical Moments”!
