Preterit: Sentences with regular -ar, -er, -ir verbs (no collaboration / no on-line translators)

For each section, follow these guidelines:

  1. Conjugate the 6 infinitives in the preterit tense

  2. Use the subjects and the verb conjugations to create an original 8 word sentence in the template below. Note: clue words (ayer, el otro día etc) count as one word only.

  3. Start your sentence with a different clue word (ayer, anoche etc) using the list below.

  4. Post the word count at the end of every sentence and be sure your sentence makes sense.

Students will write a total of 18 sentences (6 -ar, 6 -er, 6 -ir). A template is provided for students to write their sentences.

Verbs used:

AR: hablar, ayudar, comprar, viajar, trabjar, visitar

ER: comer, vender, aprender, correr, comprender, beber

IR: salir, vivir, decidir, compartir, abrir, recibir

A list of preterit endings (-ar, -er, -ir) is provided along with a list of clue words (ayer etc)

This practice can be used for classwork, homework, or as part of your sub plans.
