Children investigate the characters from the first chapter, Chapter 1: “The Shilling Pie” [Pages 15-20]. Children are shown a range of passages which provide information about the characters and are challenged to discuss what each quote tells us about the characters and how they have been described. Children to retrieve information from the text and discuss what it tells us about the character. Children are challenged to match a given quote to a given character description.
