This simple approach allows you to explicitly teach the strategies - reading around / prior knowledge / visualisation / word class / what’s happening (context). Monitor performance as the children self mark which strategy they use and after time observe as the process becomes implicit. This unique approach does not predetermine the words but rather allows the children to highlight independently unfamiliar words. Next, they practice using a series of sentences and then paragraphs. Some linked, some not, ensuring the children become versatile with the strategies.
