This is a short guide for school teachers of students beginning to learn how to play the Ukulele. It’s been written to support both music specialists and non-specialists, either of whom may be unfamiliar with the instrument, as a simple reference guide to support practical tuition.

The Ukulele is a perfect first musical instrument for most children, and has gained massive popularity throughout the world both in schools and private tuition. Its physically very small, fairly inexpensive, simple to grasp the basics, and enormously fun to play. Additionally it encourages the player to sing along, enhancing the musical experience.

I would usually recommend the Ukulele for students aged 6 years and upwards, although any child big enough to hold the instrument should be able to manage.

The information within this guide should give you all the basic principles to help students get started with the Ukulele, and allow you to confidently support their practical work.
