Complete lesson that links to Chapter 1.3 of the Edexcel curriculum on The American West, c1835-c1895, Conflict and tension
There is no textbook necessary for any of these tasks.
This lesson consists of engaging and in-depth student led activities that allows students to investigate the reasons for conflict, and the problems associated with both migrating and settling in the West. There are extension tasks for MABLE and a writing frame that shows students how to answer the ‘Explain the importance’ question.
This lesson looks in depth at:
-tensions with the Plains Indians
-Fort Laramie Treaty, causes, terms and significnace
-lawlessness in the West
-reasons for lawlessness
-government dealing with the problems
-community responses.
There is also a guide for an ‘Explain the importance’ type exam question with a model answer to guide students.

Complete set of lessons linked to the new Edexcel GCSE specification for The American West. Each lesson has a specific PPT and a series of interactive, engaging and differentiated worksheets that require the students to do the work. That's a total of 9 PPTs, linked to the chapter headings for the Pearson textbook. However, both the Pearson and Hodder textbooks were used when creating these resources. Neither textbook is necessary for these tasks as all content is included. Our lessons are carefully planned to ensure that all relevant content is covered to ensure a level 9 is attainable. Each task has different levels of difficulty, with unfinished tasks a perfect opportunity for feedback or homework. There is a glossary of key terms for students to complete as they progress through the course, along with an exam guide on how to answer questions for Paper 2, Section A.
