This thorough yet concise scheme of work covers all students need to know to answer questions successfully on the OCR GCSE Music module, The Concerto Through Time (The Baroque Concerto) in 3 x single lessons, including mini tests for retrieval practice at the start of each lesson, exam practice and concise notes.

Teaching notes are included in the ‘comments’ section of the PPT and this resource comes with a ready-made handout to support students’ knowledge of instrumentation of the period.

The Baroque Concerto also has relevance to Edexcel wider listening, and this scheme of work could be adapted to save time when preparing contextual resources on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.5.

I am passionate about Baroque music and am an experienced performer in this style alongside my teaching experience. Equip your students with the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed, whilst enriching their appreciation of one of music history’s most captivating eras.

This scheme of work covers:

  • What is a concerto?
  • The Baroque Era
  • Key composers
  • The Baroque orchestra
  • Structure and form
  • Solo concerto/concerto grosso
  • Concertino/ripieno
  • Key features of Baroque melodies
  • Exam practice

Designed to build your students’ confidence in small group musical analysis through carefully structured tasks and embed knowledge through regular retrieval practice.
