The Preterit Tense and poetry

Introduction to the Preterit tense through poetry. The aim is to be able to write a poem using the Preterit tense based on the structure of the French poem Déjeuner du Matin (translated to Spanish) by Jacques Prévert. The PowerPoint covers:

• Regular AR/ER/IR verb conjugation.
• Reflexive Pronouns and Preterit conjugation.
• Irregular verbs mentioned in the poem.

Some of the tasks include:

• Translation
• Mini whiteboard work
• Beat the Mouse game
• Twisted Translation
• A link to a ‘cortometraje’ of the poem
• Match-up tasks.

The slide does not go into how to write the poem - this is to be done afterwards. It would be useful to complete this PowerPoint before writing about holidays - especially if you want students to use the third person in the Preterit tense.
