I was observed doing this lesson and the lesson plan and lesson feedback have been included as resources. For all intensive purposes it was deemed an outstanding lesson.

Focus is on AO1 and getting to know the qualification and how the students will be assessed. This is an exam skills lesson the idea being to get students used to the Assessment Guidelines and Breaking down the exam.
LO: Has your understanding of how the events of 1770 to 1776 led to a substantial number of colonists embracing the idea of independence improved?
Do you have a better understanding of how your work will be assessed?
Has your ability to write an answer to a causality question improved?
If you answered no to any of these question or have identified any areas of concern what do you aim to do in order to improve and ensure your progress in the future?

Second part focusses on the Clashes between British forces and rebels, 1775–76. This lesson may well therefore run over more than 1 period depending on pace and materials used etc. This part considers the war of independence waged by the American colonies against Britain influenced political ideas and revolutions (one of the causes of the French Revolution) around the globe, as a fledgling, largely disconnected nation won its freedom from the greatest military force of its time. It is also why America has traditionally been opposed to colonialism.

Disclaimer Note: Some of the revision/reading material and or worksheets contain articles written by other people and the references for these are given and these would remain the property of their respective authors. Likewise wording is used from the official Edexcel specification.
