Compound area
Lesson presentations and activities
A PPT with a number of slides including questions on area of various shapes. Used as a revision tool and prior knowledge required, this lesson is focusing on applying their knowledge. I was really trying to focus on students setting their working out clearly and easy to follow. There are differentiated worksheets on the area of a trapezium and then functional GCSE questions. On the trapezium sheet I hand wrote some prompts and steps on the orange and green sheet for less able students. For all sheets I hand wrote the answers and put one copy on the desk too for students to self check.

It was excellent and kept the pupils engaged. I edited the resource slightly to remove the shapes with circles and saved those for later in the topic. The pupils were excited that they then knew how to complete the alphabet!
Two work booklets for calcutating the area of compound shapes. Includes notes, questions and page for objectives.
This resource was actually created by B Richardson. She kindly let me add it as I was so impressed.

Thanks for sharing, a real time saver. Great build up of difficulty
A slightly more challenging worksheet on finding the area of compound shapes. Students will need to find the lengths of unknown sides and subtract areas. NO CIRCLES! PDF (for printing) and answers included.

"A really nice resource. Thanks for sharing. One thing I did pick up on was Q2g was the fact that if they are all equilateral triangles the base has to be 16/TAN(60) if the height is 8, and the height has to be 3xTAN(60) if the base is 6.
