To revise for a reading assessment towards the end of Expo 2 Module 3 (Les sorties), testing knowledge from Modules 1, 2 and 3. Includes free time activities, perfect tense, modal verbs. Print p.1 on plain paper and give a sheet to each group to highlight key words, etc. Print p.2 on different colours of card and cut into strips (each question on a different strip). Give each group Q1 - when they have written their answer on the strip of card, they bring it to you and you give them Q2. It's a race to finish first (or get the most questions answered within the time limit). My pupils loved this and asked if we could do it again soon.

Cover lesson for a low ability Y7 group. Various puzzles to consolidate vocabulary for rooms of the house and furniture. Tasks increase in difficulty across a double-sided worksheet - wordsearch is accessible for the weakest students, cryptogram is a challenge for more able.

A sheet for pupils to revise a range of time phrases (and have all in one place on a sheet) as preparation for a written assessment about what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not very exciting, but hopefully useful.

Lesson to introduce the preterite tense to Y8 set 3. Bell work - translate present tense extended sentences (revision from previous lesson) Brief explanation of -ar verbs in yo, él/ella and nosotros form, followed by mini-whiteboard practice. Brief explanation of how -er and -ir verbs. Pupils rate their understanding Bronze/Silver/Gold then choose a differentiated worksheet (just print the ppt slides) which leads into a writing task. Give or keep the points game to finish.

A series of lessons aimed at high ability KS4 (Y9 or 10) to equip them with skills to include a range of tenses (including ones they haven&'t been taught yet) in their work. Focuses on recognising when to use 6 main tenses and on using the verb table in the middle of the dictionary to conjugate so pupils can be more independent in future. EDIT: Conjugation board game removed from the resource at the request of the original creator as they have now made it into a paid-for resource.

Text to introduce a class who are already familiar with the perfect tense of regular and irregular verbs with avoir to the idea of verbs which use etre as the auxiliary. Used as a challenging lesson for top set Y8 but would be suitable for KS4. 1) Reading for gist - give each paragraph a title (EXT: Come up with your own title for the last line as this doesn't have one provided). 2) Categorise verbs into avoir aux and etre verb (EXT: Identify the 2 types of verb that use etre - movement and reflexives) 3) True or false Qs.

Used with Y9 bottom set beginners Spanish - equally suitable for Y7 Spanish. True or false to recap colours. Give out sheet and pupils use prior knowledge to complete as much as possible. Can use dictionaries or just do a bit then go through answers and fill in gaps for corto/largo/liso/rizado etc. Reading task - understand the sentences and draw pictures based on them.

Practice translation activities in the style of the new GCSE. Worksheet includes a short version of the AQA mark scheme. I go through the correct translation on the board then get pupils to make corrections and peer assess before I mark their work. Using these every 2-3 weeks as a 10-15 minute activity, to assess pupils regularly and keep exam skills ticking over, rather than doing a massive exam at the end of each topic.

Approximately 8-week unit of work on the topic of holidays produced/adapted for Year 8 Set 3. Focus on recognition and use of 3 tenses. Leads up to an unseen writing assessment task (aiming to prepare pupils more for the requirements of the new GCSE as opposed to memorising for controlled assessment). French Christmas traditions activity for the end of term. To be done as a treasure hunt / kind of running dictation activity. Powerpoint slides printed 2 per sheet, cut up and stuck around classroom walls. Grid between 2-3 pupils. I pupil at a time per team can get up and look at the pictures, bringing back information (the French caption) to fill in the grid.

For a beginners Spanish Y9 class. Introduces animals vocab (pets) and includes a sheet for pupils to match up and record vocab. Speaking and writing including adjectives.

To build on work on saying how often you go to the cinema (Expo 3 Vert - Module 1, adverbs of frequency). Recap of aller and adverbs of frequency, followed by work on reasons/for against cinema-going. Work out the meaning of the statements and categorise for and against. Key vocab given in word-bank on powerpoint to support least able.

Lesson to prepare a bottom set Y9 group for writing about future plans. Settling starter (wordsearch) followed by team activity to practise using a word mat to write developed sentences. Pupils work in small groups with a mini-whiteboard and a word mat. A sentence appears on the board in English and they have to translate it (most of what they need is in the word mat). The team with the most complete answer when the time stops gets a point.

2-3 lessons on the weather and activities in the near future tense for a weak KS3 group. 1st lesson - presenting the vocabulary, recording on a sheet, understanding sentences about weather in different locations. 2nd lesson - listening from Mira 1, then near future tense linked with weather (plans for the weekend).

Powerpoint resources for the 1st 5 lessons on this topic with a pretty good bottom set who will be taking French to GCSE. Focus on revising/consolidating vocabulary from previous years (introducing yourself, physical description) but also using the imperfect tense just in the 'je' form. Aimed at a largely 'Vert' class but some crossover with 'Rouge' due to inclusion of imperfect.
