To revise for a reading assessment towards the end of Expo 2 Module 3 (Les sorties), testing knowledge from Modules 1, 2 and 3.
Includes free time activities, perfect tense, modal verbs.
Print p.1 on plain paper and give a sheet to each group to highlight key words, etc.
Print p.2 on different colours of card and cut into strips (each question on a different strip).
Give each group Q1 - when they have written their answer on the strip of card, they bring it to you and you give them Q2. It's a race to finish first (or get the most questions answered within the time limit).
My pupils loved this and asked if we could do it again soon.
Reading tasks with grid to complete - the one in 2 tenses was aimed at a bottom set Y9 class and the one in 3 tenses was aimed at a middle/high set. But I'm planning to use the 2 tense one with Year 8s too.
More or less the same task, so could be given out in the same class for differentiation.
Reference material for high ability KS4 groups.
I am giving this to my groups quite early on and teaching them to use the verb tables in the middle of the dictionary.
So whilst at the moment they haven't covered the imperfect or conditional in much detail (and haven't done the A* tenses at all) some should be able to use their initiative and go beyond what they have been taught, with this guide to help them.
Lesson introducing the verb aller and different methods of transport.
Doesn't involve loads of drilling of aller, but exposes pupils to the concept of irregular verbs. They should be able to use 'je vais' 'tu vas' and 'il va' and just be aware of the other forms.
To build on work on saying how often you go to the cinema (Expo 3 Vert - Module 1, adverbs of frequency).
Recap of aller and adverbs of frequency, followed by work on reasons/for against cinema-going. Work out the meaning of the statements and categorise for and against.
Key vocab given in word-bank on powerpoint to support least able.
Resources designed to accompany the film (watching the film over the course of 3-4 lessons) in addition to the worksheets added to TES by other teachers.
Includes photo card task, understanding a synopsis, P/N/P+N question based on authentic reviews (from allocine), and students writing their own review.
Lesson introducing low ability Y8 to describing a photo (for AQA GCSE Foundation Writing style task).
Context = Zipi y Zape y el Club de la Cánica - prior to watching the film.
Added lesson on understanding character descriptions (to accompany watching the film).
Lesson to introduce the preterite tense to Y8 set 3.
Bell work - translate present tense extended sentences (revision from previous lesson)
Brief explanation of -ar verbs in yo, él/ella and nosotros form, followed by mini-whiteboard practice.
Brief explanation of how -er and -ir verbs.
Pupils rate their understanding Bronze/Silver/Gold then choose a differentiated worksheet (just print the ppt slides) which leads into a writing task.
Give or keep the points game to finish.
Year 7 reading activity with three short texts including opinions and reasons. Could be suitable for cover work.
Part 1 - match pictures to the texts.
Part 2 - true or false.
Series of lessons for Y8 top set introducing tenses, within the context of free time/leisure.
Includes:
-opinions of infinitives
-1st person in past, present, future
-perfect tense with avoir (range of subjects, irregular past participles)
-opinions of TV
-speaking assessment - GCSE-style roleplay cards
All lessons are differentiated Bronze/Silver/Gold.
2 different versions of a diary entry about what sports you do on different days, as preparation for a writing assessment.
1 version is for pupils aiming for maximum Level 4 and is all in the present tense. The other includes the perfect tense and the immediate future for pupils working towards Level 5/6. Content (activities/days) is identical so it can all be marked together in class.
Lesson to introduce the simple future tense to mid/low ability Y10 (who had only done immediate future in KS3).
To do the listening, you need to have Kerboodle. I have added a gapfill activity to exploit the Kerboodle sound file in a different way.
Differentiated lesson.
Most able - range of subjects, some si clauses with set sentence openers
Least able - 1st person (other subjects with support).
Pupils use cognates/prior knowledge/process of elimination to match the French and English timephrases and place them on the timeline.
Used alongside work on perfect tense.
Vocab sheet to use with this video from VideoEle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etd0-GwJJ0Y
Pupils see how many items they can identify from the video - challenge to find as many as possible, rather than expectation to get them all.
Then becomes sheet for recording vocab - go through answers on powerpoint and pupils fill in gaps.
First lesson for low ability beginners group on clothing.
Revision of colours, presentation of vocab, beat the teacher repetition game, reading and writing task, true or false plenary (did this as thumbs up/down).
3 different tasks so includes extension work for more able.

Task 1 - very basic, vocab recognition.
Task 2 - comprehension.
Task 3 - identifying reasons/arguments for and against.
