I used the book last year during remote learning, recorded chapters and set writing tasks. The children loved the book and the mystery of it so I decided to revisit it this year and expand the learning. Chapters 1-6 reading comprehension sheets Written in the style of Literacy Shed’s VIPERS Reading, English and Grammar lessons for the book are available on MyShop I use the questions when reading to the class. My TA has a copy of the sheets and notes down the children’s ideas and answers for verbal evidence of reading. I collect as many answers as possible each lesson.

Reading lessons have been planned in the style of Jane Considine’s Hooked on Books approach. 2 x demonstration comprehension sessions (Mondays and Wednesdays) which are based on Spy Master. 2 x book talk sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays) where the children will be in mixed ability groups, each group with a different text to focus on together. 1 x independent comprehension session (Fridays), which is based on the book, Spy Master and completed in a similar way to the demo lessons, but with less discussion and modeling.
