The Highwayman Narrative Poetry, Persuasive Writing & Recounts

(1)
A four-week unit of work providing 20 lessons of English which follow on, one from the other, building to a grand finale for engaging with narrative poems, then persuasive writing and finally news writing. Starting with an analysis of the poem, storyboarding, writing alternative endings and role playing characters. We then move on to create a court scene and a one-week focus on persuasive writing before finishing with a one-week focus on news writing. There is lots of dressing up and fun lesson starters/games to grab your class’s attention from the start. I have perfected this planning through rigorous assessment over the past six years, adding resources along the way. This is literally 20+ hours of hard work and dedication to ensuring that you deliver an English lesson that children in Year 5/6/7 (dependent on ability) will really engage with and NEVER forget. If you are not happy with your purchase I will personally PayPal refund you if you can explain why. All feedback welcomed!

Romeo and Juliet School Assemby/Theatrical Production

I have written this musical production/parody of Romeo and Juliet for Year 6/Year 7 children to act out. For me it worked with two classes of 22 pupils, with one class playing the Montagues and the other class playing the Capulets, however it can easily be adapted to work for a one-form entry school. Alternatively, it can be used to teach Romeo and Juliet in class. I am hugely passionate about children learning about Shakespeare at a young age and this cleverly condensed version of the original tragedy is accessible, fun and full of music and moments of mirth. It works all the better if Juliet is played by a boy. I majored in Scriptwriting at university and see it as a release from the daily grind of teaching. Please use as you see best.

One-off outstanding English Lesson

A one-off lesson on iambic pentameter and sonnets. Suitable for Year 7 and 8 pupils. The lesson makes use of a great TED video on iambic pentameter in Shakespeare, then challenges children to identify the iambs in each word before asking them to write a spring stanza with a wordbank to help. When observed teaching this lesson for a job interview I received excellent feedback on this lesson.

Common Entrance 13+ Pupil Revision Guide

A pupil booklet explaining the new English common entrance exam process at 13+ (introduced 2023) complete with revision tools, memorable mnemonics and step-by-step guidance for the writing and comprehension papers. This 16-page booklet is designed to be used to support pupils in lessons but also enable them to revise key terms and techniques ahead of their exams. Used and updated many times over the past few years and then adapted for the new approach to English Common Entrance, it has been incredibly well-received by pupils, parents and teachers.

Outstanding Maths Lesson for Yr 5/6/7

A great lesson to use for an observation, I have planned this mobile phone contracts investigation to grab slightly older children's attention and demonstrate to them why maths is relevant and worthwhile, to avoid being ripped off in the future. Children must read through the contract details for each handset and then work out which one-year contract is the cheapest and which is the most expensive. When I have taught this lesson all children have been rapt, even 'those girls' in the corner who never concentrate! 'THOSE' girls couldn't get enough of this lesson and having taught it to Year 5 and 6 I know it is easy to adapt to suit all ability groups. The lesson is intended to teach children to be able to work through: - multi-step word problems - percentate increases/decreases - all four operations - working with money - creating graphs
