Climate Change & COP 26 Unit Geography KS3

(0)
Enquiry-based, student-led unit of work on the topic of Climate change, with the COP 26 Conference as a starting point. Students will learn about COP 26 through discussions, research and videos. They will investigate/evaluate it’s importance by creating an infographic/poster on COP 26. I have included some model infographics/posters created by my students for inspiration within the lesson PPT. Students will then dive into learning about climate change as a topic. This is a student-led, peer-teaching activity, where students will be in small groups creating lessons (or ‘teaching episodes’) on various climate change sub-topics. Each group will then present/teach their sub-topics to the group. There are 3 assessments in this unit: The COP 26 Poster/infographic The teaching episodes/presentations (I have a success criteria included for this) End of unit assessement - I use the free online platform to create a comphrensive multiple-choice and true/false quiz based on the content delivered during the presentations. I can share the code for the Socrative Quiz I created - please drop me a message for this :) Outline of unit is as follows: Lessons 1 & 2 - What is COP 26? Lessons 3 & 4 - COP 26 Infographic Lessons 5 - 6 - Teaching episodes planning & preparation Lessons 7-9 - Teaching episodes presentations Lessons 10 & 11 - Revision & Socrative Assessment

Climate Change - Sustainable Sport in 2050 (KS3 Unit of Work)

(0)
Geography/Humanities unit of work centred on climate change, and the impact climate change will have on Sport in the future. Students will learn about the process of climate change & why it’s a problem for sport. They will then investigate how sports can, and is fighting back to reduce its carbon footprint and become more sustainable. This will be followed by a look into how COP26 will impact on sports into the future. Literacy is a big component of this, with students accessing many articles to aid their learning. Following this, students will work in groups where they select a sport & create a detailed, informative report which investigates sustainability in the sport. This project will take multiple lessons to put together and is an assessed piece of work (rubric included). Finally, the groups will then present their reports to the rest of class (and maybe some guests!), which is also an assessed task. Outline of unit is as follows: Lesson 1 - what is climate change? Lesson 2 - Why is climate change a problem for sports? Lesson 3 - How can sport fight back? Lesson 4 - Sport & COP26 Lesson 5-8 - Sport in 2050 Reports Lesson 9-11 - Report Presentations

Cambridge A Level Geography Past Papers (Exam Questions & Mark Schemes) 2021 June series PPTs (CIE)

(0)
**PPTs - Cambridge A Level Geography Exam Questions & Mark Schemes 2021 June series. ** ALL exam questions, mark schemes and inserts for the Cambridge A Level Geography 2021 June series. All three components for each paper included. All questions and mark schemes for all four exam papers included (Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 and Paper 4). One Powerpoint for each paper, so 12 Powerpoints in total. All together, there are about 130 slides of exam questions and mark schemes, covering ALL AS & A2 Level Geography topics. Powerpoints are broken down perfectly using the following format: a set of questions (and insert, if applicable) on one slide, followed by the mark scheme for those questions on the following slide. This is repeated for all slides on each powerpoint covering all questions on the exam, sorted by topic e.g. in Paper 1 PPTs, the questions and mark schemes for Topic 1 (Hydrology & Fluvial Geomorphology) are first, followed by Rocks & Weathering etc. The images included illustrate how the PPTs look for each of the four exam papers (Paper 1-4). Each image shows the first four slides of a PPT (e.g. the cover images shows the first four slides of a Paper 1 PPT). This resource will be a HUGE TIME-SAVER as it eliminates the need to go hunting for exam questions and mark schemes, copying/pasting questions and mark schemes to powerpoints for practice in class (which is often a very tedious task). It also allows the teacher to quickly and easily find suitable questions they wish to do with their class and keep track of questions that have/have not been attempted/addressed. Powerpoints can also be shared with students so they can gain a deep awareness of the wide range of questions which get asked at A Level, attempt as many questions as they like, self-assess and improve their work using the mark schemes, as often as they like. Allows students to prepare for exams in the best possible way, boosting student performance and success! The actual full exam papers, mark schemes and inserts are also included in the package.

David Attenborough: Breaking Boundaries - The Science of Our Planet Worksheets

(1)
This resource consists of two comprehensive worksheets to accompany the David Attenborough Netflix Documentary - Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet. Worksheet 1 (With questions) - This 8-page worksheet, includes over 100 questions for students to answer while watching the documentary. The questions are categorised based on the nine planetary boundaries identified by scientist Yohan Rockstrom. Alongside each question (and each category) includes the exact timing of the documentary where these questions (and this category) is being addressed. Worksheet 2 (Independent version) - This 5-page worksheet differs from Worksheet 1. While it still has the same structure of categories, it has a massive reduction in the number of questions. Here, the focus is for students to watch the documentary and take their own notes on what they feel is important with each of the nine boundaries. Tip on using the worksheet: The worksheet has a total of 14 categories (one for each of the nine boundaries, and 5 others including an ‘Introduction’ at the start and ‘Hope for the Future’ at the end). Because the timings of each category are included, I recommended pausing the documentary after each category for 5/10 minutes. During this time, it’s fun for students to conduct a ‘scavenger hunt’ type quest to share answers/notes with others, and build on their own worksheet. This will mean the total student ‘experience’ for this documentary could be up to 3 lessons & it is a great activity to build student aware Overview of the documentary: In the documentary, David Attenborough and scientist Yohan Rockstrom examine the science of our planetary decline, setting out in unflinching detail the extent of Earth’s degradation – and the catastrophic consequences of anything but drastic action. In 2009, Rockström identified nine natural processes upon which all life on Earth depends, and the limits within each that cannot be exceeded without endangering humanity. This documentary examines these nine boundaries and also outlines what changes we must make immediately, to combat the problems faced. The nine boundaries are as follows: Climate Change Biomes/Forest loss Biodiversity Freshwater/Hydrological Cycle Flow of Nutrients - Nitrogen & Phosphorous Cycles Oceans/Ocean Acidification Novel Entities (Human-made pollutants) Air Pollution Ozone Layer It is different to Attenborough’s usual documentaries in the sense that the focus here is on science, education and facts more so than the amazing scenes of wildlife which we have become accustomed to with Attenborough. There is potential here to extend this further - following on from this activity, students can be placed into small groups and each assigned one of the nine planetary boundaries. They could produce presentations on each where they address the problems and offer innovative solutions to their selected/chosen problem based on research!

KS3 Geography/Humanities Population & Migration Units of Work

(0)
Units of work for KS3 Geography, on the topics of ‘Population’ and ‘Migration’. Topics can be delivered independently/individually, or back-to-back as a comprehensive human geography study of both topics. The lessons are designed for delivery to Year 9 Geography/Humanities students, as a good preparation/foundation for the crucial Human Geography Theme 1 Unit of IGCSE Geography, which covers both topics in detail. However, I have also adapted the lessons and delivered them to Year 8 classes with great success in on many occasions. Both units are highly adaptable in all aspects of delivery: duration, content and structure. Some lessons can be shortened, lengthened or removed as required to meet your curriculum needs. Population unit can be anything between 6-10 60 minute lessons, Migration unit can be anything between 6-12 60 minute lessons, as an approximate guide. Some lesson are suitable for 50 minutes to 1 hour of teaching time, but some can require two+ lessons to deliver – this is outlined in the lesson overview below. Includes Powerpoints, with supporting worksheets/resources for lessons including video links, online articles etc. Active and independent learning are the cornerstones of these lessons. Plenty of IGCSE exam questions (with mark schemes) have been sprinkled into several of the lessons to give students a flavour of IGCSE Geography. No additional resources are required. These are the lessons which I currently use to teach my students in a high-achieving High Performance Learning School, and are, therefore, of a very high quality and fully up-to-date. Lesson overview is as follows: Population: • L1 - My Place in the World • L2 - Global Population & Me • L3 – Birth Rates & Death Rates • L4 – Population Explosion • L5 – The Effects of BR & DR on Population (Challenge Lesson) • L6 – Population Distribution & Density (2+ lessons) • L7 – Megacities • L8 – Urban Problems Migration: • L1 - Migration – Causes & Impacts (2 lessons) • L2 - Rural-Urban Migration (2+ lessons) • L3 - Forced Migration (2+ lessons) Ample formative assessment opportunities provided throughout both units including: Extended writing pieces using PEEL-paragraph approach (x3), information poster on population distribution and density, infographic on a rural-urban migration case study and a case study of forced migration. If you’d like a summative assessment, I have created on one on the platform called ‘Socrative’. It consists of 50 questions related to both topics, and is self-marked so, therefore, saving us a lot of marking time :) Average scores in my classes historically are approx. 60% for this quiz/assessment. Email me (address below) if you’d like this quiz/assessment :) The ‘preview’ images are screenshots of PowerPoint slides, worksheets, activities etc. taken from some of the lessons in the units. If you want more information please contact me on aidanannagh@hotmail.com and, if needed, we can arrange a video call where I can share some more :)

Model Answers to ALL Cambridge IGCSE Geography 7 Marker (Case Study) Questions

(0)
Over 100 model answers to ALL Cambridge IGCSE Geography 7 marker (case study)questions. Comprehensive bundle – ALL previously asked 7 markers addressed here, from ALL 3 themes and ALL sub-topics. All model answers provided score full marks, often going far above and beyond requirements to score 7/7 in Paper 1. Multiple developed points (L2 & L3 statements), place-specific references, as well as facts/stats/data are included in each model answer. Teachers of the course will know that Cambridge ‘re-use/re-ask’ questions year-on-year, but the questions are sometimes worded a little bit differently from year-to-year. I have filtered through years of past papers to ensure that this resource provides model answers to all questions that have been asked historically. After purchasing, if you notice a 7 marker which I have not accounted for, please do email me and I will resolve (aidanannagh@hotmail.com). The ‘preview’ images provide you with a list of all the 7 markers for which model answers are provided for. Multiple model answers are provided for some of the questions on this list. Also, some of the ‘preview’ images give you examples of some of the model answers which you will receive, so that you get a sample of what you will be purchasing before doing so. These model answers can be utilised in many ways by teachers, such as: shared with students on a ‘drip-feed’ basis as the course is navigated, or shared with students as an excellent revision in the lead up to exams, or answers can be analysed individually as part of ‘Be The Examiner’-type tasks.
