A week long unit on the classic poem What is Pink? by Christina Rossetti The unit helps children to understand classic poetry by introducing the poem in a way which they can easily understand. The children are asked to explore the theme of colour, read and discuss the poem as well as answer comprehension questions and then plan and write their own verses in a similar style. All resources are included such as planning sheets, comprehension questions and sheets and templates for writing. It could be easily adapted for Foundation Stage, Year 1 or Year 2.

The unit helps children to understand classic poetry by introducing the poem in a way which they can easily understand. The children are asked to read, discuss and perform the poem as well as answer comprehension questions and then plan and write their own verse in a similar style. All resources are included such as planning sheets, comprehension PPT and sheets and templates for writing. It has been used with an able Year 2 class and would also work for a Year 3 class.

A PowerPoint activity with some shared comprehension questions with a follow-up comprehension sheet of questions and answers about the poem. The questions are based around VIPERS (see Literacy Shed website). This activity has been used with an able Year 2 class but could also be used for Year 3.

A six week unit of planning for Art. It focuses on the artist Claude Monet and includes finger painting and clay sculpture. Lots of resources included such as a fact file, copyright free images, evaluation sheet and many website links. I have used this with Year 2, but it could easily be adapted for Year 1 or 3. All images are taken from wpc clipart and are free from copyright.

A 5 day plan for classic poetry based on the poem The Tyger by William Blake. This has originally be used with a Year 5 class (9-10 year olds) but could be adapted for other ages. It introduces the poem to the children in an accessible way and then encourages short and longer writing opportunities. All resources are included as well as an annotated version of the poem to analyse the language and structure.
