Year 6 SATS revision quiz

(0)
A fun and engaging way to support Year 6 students in the run up to SATS. They can complete the 6 rounds of the quiz individually, in pairs or in teams. Each round has 10 questions and all answers are at the end. I’ve included a purely for fun movie round to help break up the session! Round 1 - arithmetic Round 2 - spellings Round 3 - name the movie Round 4 - punctuation and grammar Round 5 - reading comprehension Round 6 - maths reasoning (73 slides in total. Estimated time to complete = 45 minutes) These styles of quizzes have been incredibly popular with my Year 6 class and have helped to promote a lot of useful discussion around methods, pace and question types.

I use a slide a day in order to work on and improve sentence structure in my Year 5 class. There are a variety of activities and they encourage children to think about the impact of their language choices on the reader and make small changes to create a big impact. Children have really enjoyed using them as a starter or brain break.

Ashley Booth Inspired Reading Lesson

I made this powerpoint following an amazing CPD session with Ashley Booth to test out with my class and they LOVED it. Even my most reluctant readers were really engaged and my greater depth readers were abuzz the rest of the day. This lesson is on the first chapter of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It includes all pages of the first chapter, vocabulary work using pictures, Individual Thinking tasks, Partner talk and two choices for Solo Tasks. Personally, I’m going to continue using the template for my subsequent lessons and obviously you can too should you wish to!

In light of COVID-19 and reopening schools, more than ever we need to be well equipped to support children who are feeling anxious, unhappy or frustrated. This traffic light system takes children through 3 steps - STOP, THINK and ACT - in order to manage their emotions. I’ve used this resource very successfully on a wide range of children, including those who have recently suffered a bereavement. I hope it helps!
