KS3 - Y9 - Physics - Heat Transfer Radiation

(0)
This is a complete lesson on heat transfer by infrared radiation that I prepared for a Y9 class. Starter activity to recap convection from a previous lesson using a group discussion and feedback on a hot air balloon. is followed by an introduction to infrared radiation and heating. A Leslie Cube demonstration is used to demonstrate the differences in surfaces (black/matt/light/shiny). Different real life examples are then discussed as a precursor to a set of exam-style questions (ExamPro so they cannot be included) Includes a PowerPoint and Lesson Plan. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS3 - Y9 - Physics - Temperature Gradients

(0)
This is a complete lesson on temperature gradients that I prepared for a Y9 class. Starter activity to discuss what is going to happen to my mug of coffee. The we revisit the Leslie Cube from a previous lesson but this time using a temperature probe as there had been some disagreement amongst students as to the temperature of various sides. The ideas behind temperature gradients and equilibrium are then introduced followed by some thinking exercises (penguins, cups of coffee in Summer and Winter). There are then some questions to work through recapping conduction, convection and radiation. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Worksheet. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS3 - Y9 - Physics - Kinetic Energy

(0)
This is a complete lesson on kinetic energy that I prepared for a Y9 class. Starter activity using a roller coaster example to relate back to a previous lesson on gravitational potential energy. Then spotting examples of KE (anything that’s moving). Introduce the KE equations and work through some progressively harder examples. A worksheet is used to cement learning. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Worksheet with answers. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS4 - Y10 - Physics - Power and Electrical Appliances

(0)
This is a complete lesson on power and electrical appliances that I prepared for a Y10 class. Start off by reviewing previous lesson on series and parallel circuits with a worked example calculating current in a circuit. Wire wool and battery demo to keep interest up and link back to fuses. Power equations (E=Pt, E=QV and Q=It) are then recapped and a derivation of P=I2R is worked through. A worksheet with various Power problems is then worked through by the group. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and WorkSheet. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.
KS4 - Y10 - Physics - Conservation of Momentum

KS4 - Y10 - Physics - Conservation of Momentum

(0)
This is a complete lesson on conservation of momentum that I prepared for a Y10 class. The concept of momentum was introduced and a couple of examples were worked through in the PPT with attention being paid to using the correct units. Students were then given several questions to work through on their own and these were then supported by worked answers on the PPT. A Newton’s cradle was used to introduce and demonstrate the idea of conservation of momentum. Several worked examples were then demonstrated on the PPT to demonstrate an expected answer layout. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Homework Questions and Answers. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS4 - Y10 - Physics - Conservation of Momentum Explosions

(0)
This is a complete lesson on conservation of momentum and in paricular explosions that I prepared for a Y10 class. A follow on to a previous lesson on conservation of momentum. Worked examples on the PPT were used to reinforce the previous lesson. Momentum being conserved in explosions was then introduced and several worked examples were completed by the class. Finally the idea of rate of change of momentum was discussed and tied into force via Newton’s second law. Includes a PowerPoint and Lesson Plan. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS4 - Y10 - Physics - Series and Parallel Circuits

(0)
This is a complete lesson on series and parallel circuits that I prepared for a Y10 class. Start off by recalling and describing series circuits relationships in terms of current voltage and resistance. Group works through first part of worksheet and the group share their answers. Parallel circuit relationships are then discussed using PPT example and group works through second part of worksheet and share their answers. The calculation of resistance in parallel 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + … is described at the end. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and WorkSheet. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS3 - Physics - Distance Time

(0)
This is a complete lesson on distance-time graphs that I prepared for a Y7 class. Covers typical speeds, calculating the mean for a set of walking speed results, plotting distance time on a graph and introducing the concept of gradient and its relation to speed. Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Worksheet. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.
KS3 - Physics - Friction

KS3 - Physics - Friction

(0)
This is a complete lesson on friction for a Y7 class. Covers an introduction to frictional force, “can friction ever be useful?” and an investigation into frictional forces on shoes moving across different surfaces . Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Investigation Worksheet. If you find this resource useful then it would be great if you could leave me a review.

KS3 - Y8 - POWER & ENERGY - WORKSHEET

(0)
A worksheet on calculating Power aimed at KKS3/Y8. It starts with a description of the two equations that will be used (P = E/t and V= VI), introduces how to use equation triangles (which I don’t really like but I know that a lot of students find useful) and then finishes with a set of ten questions of increasing difficulty (with hints). Includes the answers (in red at the end)
