Introduction to Trigonometry MAGIC BOX ACTIVITY

Introduction to Trigonometry MAGIC BOX ACTIVITY

(2)
A differentiated activity that gets students out of their seats. A change from worksheet activities. Print each of the PDFs on the appropriate coloured paper. There are 6 different questions in each set. You’ll need to copy enough for each student to complete all the questions (just in case). How I use it: Students complete a RAGB differentiated activity to enable them to self-assess and select the appropriate colour to start on (example slide included). They then go to the ‘magic box’ with that colour label, pick out a card, take it back to their desk, stick it in their book, and answer the question. When they have answered 3 questions they self-assess using answers provided (usually turned upside down next to the appropriate magic box). If they get all 3 correct they can move onto the next colour box, or alternatively can decide to complete the remaining 3 questions in that colour for further practice. If they get any wrong, they MUST seek help from a peer or the teacher to understand why. They then complete the remaining 3 questions and avoid making the same mistakes again. The magic boxes are labelled Red, Amber and Green. I ALWAYS have blue extension activities available for any student who completes the Green activity and needs to be challenged further (usually exam or problem solving questions).

Weekly Multiplication Grid (1 to 10)

(2)
A multiplication grid for each week of the school year. 1 to 10 times tables with missing values so students have the challenge of working backwards. This is used weekly with my classes. Timed, 5 minutes to complete as much as they can. Students try and beat their time/progress each time. LA students spend some time writing out the times tables they struggle with under the grid before the timer starts; HA students complete the grid and then write out their 11-15 times tables underneath.

(1)
A weekly bell activity. The slide is displayed as students enter the classroom. Students have 30 seconds to 1 minute after the bell to remember as many of the key words as they can. When the time is up, students have 2 minutes to write as many of the words as they can in the back of their book. The slide is then displayed again and the students self-assess, checking spellings and correcting where appropriate. As an extension students can be asked to write definitions of the key words too.

Marvel Themed Booklet - NUMBER - Rounding to 10 100 1000

This is my Marvel themed Rounding to 10, 100 and 1000 booklet. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of it. If you’re using this booklet for general revision, I recommend completing ALL the activities in order, BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD and PLATINUM. Make sure to mark your answers before moving on to the next section! Otherwise, I recommend you complete the Check In task and then mark your answers. From there, decide where in the booklet is appropriate for you to begin. For example, if you get some of the bronze questions wrong, start on the bronze practice section. If you get ALL the Check In questions correct, skip straight to the PLATINUM activity and challenge yourself. If you spot any errors, I’m only human, let me know so I can correct them. Enjoy! Miss B
