This unit is used starting in September and lasts all year long. Each student is assigned a day of the week. The first week of the month is a show and tell. The second week changes topics each month. The third week students give a book talk and the fourth week is poetry reading. Included in this product is a parent letter to explain the task and a sheet to send home for the second week of the month as this is the week that changes. The Common Core Standards are listed for speaking and listening.

We love this product because students learn new facts and are engaged in the reading material and activities. Students can complete this reading activity whole group while working with a partner, as a center, small guided reading group, or as an independent book project. This Flip Book or Cubing book study can be a paired fiction/non fiction differentiated unit used with The Magic Tree House books Ancient Greece and the Olympics and Hour of the Olympics or it can be used as a stand alone book study with the Fact Tracker Ancient Greece and the Olympics. We purchase enough copies of the Fact Tracker Ancient Greece and the Olympics so students can partner read the book. We use 1 copy of Hour of the Olympics for read aloud. This can be purchased or checked out from the library. Students work with a partner or independently to read Ancient Greece and the Olympics to complete six questions or statements that require students to Describe it, Compare it, Associate it, Analyze it, Apply it and Argue for or Against it. Cubing allows students to use all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Cubing is a techniques for considering a subject from six points of view. It works when a student is “stuck” or locked into a particular way of thinking. Cubing allows students to look at this topic from a variety of angles and to develop a multidimensional perspective. Students can display their final product using a box or the flip book provided. Hour of the Olympics is used as a teacher read aloud. We created Print and Teach as a way for all staff in our school to successfully teach the weekly Leveled Readers. This product helps students to independently think and respond to all weekly questions. All activities follow the questions and note taking activity in each Leveled Reader. The vocabulary activity has several open ended activities for students to learn or review the weekly words. This step by step unit uses read aloud to develop ideas and the structure of narrative writing. Worksheets are provided to accompany each read aloud-allowing students to gather ideas. This Common Core close read, note taking, comprehension, vocabulary activity is meant to be used with the Literature Anthology Compare Text Story. We created this to provide students with independent reading practice at the end of each week. McGraw Hill is teacher dependent most of the week. This allows students to read independently. This activity works well with a partner read too. Students discuss the story as they are completing the Note Taking graphic organizer and the Close Read questions. Teachers can use this as an assessment, independent comprehension and vocabulary check for the week, guided group to further develop comprehension, or a substitute lesson.

This is a no prep interactive math notebook to supplement Third Grade Module 1 Engage New York Curriculum. We created this interactive notebook to focus students’ attention to vocabulary and concept development. At the top of each page is the module and lesson number with the student friendly objective. Also, the 1 page format is a great time saver allowing students to focus on the key ideas instead of cutting several pieces, pasting, coloring and copying definitions. There is 1 page for each lesson that students cut and glue into a 10.5 x 8 inch spiral notebook (standard size) or complete without using a notebook. Students work on completing the page after the lesson is taught or this makes a great warm-up/review the following day. Teachers or assistants can use this to teach a leveled reading group, independent work, substitute plans or as a literacy center. The Essential Question and Text to Text printable includes the story titles and the level of the reader. On each page the unit number and week number helps keep the teacher and student organized.
