General Election 2024- The Labour Party. A lesson all about who the Labour Party are, their values, their history, their leader, Keir Starmer, and their current policies. The lesson also introduces the concept of socialism.

This resource is in two parts, so can be used for two 25 minute Tutor Time sessions. It may stretch over three if you complete all the activities.
Part 1) Were the first Britons Black? This part has been created to spark your students’ interest in the origins of Britain as a multi-ethnic country. It introduces recent research on ‘Cheddar Man’, an individual discovered to be one of the first peoples of Britain, and of a group many would describe today as people of colour. In this part, students also cover how for centuries western academics grouped together completely unrelated cultures as ‘black’ and see that recent DNA discoveries have shown that there is more human genetic diversity in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa than there is in the entire rest of the world.
Part 2) More of a traditional Black History session, looking at the origins of the month, back to its conception in America, the Civil Rights movement and including reading comprehension tasks and clips with differentiated questioning.
This resource pack includes a one hour long PowerPoint with accompanying worksheets, well differentiated activities, literacy focus tasks, clip tasks with three-way differentiated questions and information sheets. Students will discover who Extinction Rebellion and Greta Thunberg are, what they and similar groups and people are trying to achieve, why the urgency and why some people oppose some of the current methods of protest. Students will then form their own views on whether peaceful protest is really enough in the face of a global climate emergency.
