This lesson covers: 3.4.2 What are the powers of local and devolved government and how can citizens participate? How public taxes are raised and spent by government locally and nationally. The practice of budgeting and managing risk and how it is used by government to manage complex decisions about the allocation of public funding. Different viewpoints and debates about how governments and other service providers make provision for welfare, health, the elderly and education. Created for Citizenship GCSE - Politics and Participation. Includes: One 60 min hour lesson with PP, worksheets, exam practice question, peer assessment and marking grid, clips and source book. Well differentiated and easily adapted. Made for AQA Citizenship 9-1 but suitable material for any of the Citizenship GCSE courses or could be used for non-GCSE British Values lessons. An easy to use 12 mark question peer assessment grid for AQA RS 9-1 GCSE (produced originally for Spec A, but works under the same principle for other AQA specs and is editable). Can be used for any 12 mark question and has been written in student speak based on the AQA assessment materials. There is a space for students to fill in the question being assessed as well as guidance on how to give appropriate peer assessment feedback. It can be used again and again in lessons and has been created to save time. There is an editable word version and a PDF version included. More AQA RS GCSE Resources available here. A fun and creative Citizenship / Tutor Time project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, old clothes, felt tips and a any other boxes/construction materials you can find (just things that would usually be thrown in the recycling). The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous political icon (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free PSHCE lessons over the coming months. Complete 1 hour lesson based around documentary with starter handout and worksheet. Credit to Channel 4 for documentary linked. The documentary is about an Orthodox Jewish man who attempts to reintegrate in a strict community after becoming involved with criminals and spending time in prison. It’s great for seeing day to day life in an Orthodox Jewish community in Britain, but isn’t essential to the module so don’t worry if you don’t have time.

An hour long employability skills / careers lesson which was focuses on the idea of having a ‘personal brand’ online. This is something which can be tainted by your social media mishaps or unflattering / incriminating images shared by others. The lesson emphasises the fact that it is commonplace for employers to Google potential employees, so we all need to think about our digital footprints and what they say about us. This pack includes a detailed PowerPoint, information pack, differentiated activities, clips tasks with questions and a literacy / debate focus task.
