A fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated 2 hour lesson about why some people say we are living through a ‘culture war.’ The lesson explores the concepts of wokeness, outrage culture and click-baiting. Students will investigate how the media uses extreme headlines for monetary gain and how, in the process, this helps divide the public further when it comes to political and social views. 1 hour, fully resourced lesson which provides an overview and introduction to the Iluminati, investigating whether it is a real alternative religious movement or a conspiracy theory. Students always ask to learn about the Illuminati and I’ve never had an excuse to make a lesson on it until I made this alternative religions and new movements unit - so here it is! This lesson is the sixth in my ‘Alternative Religions and New Movements’ Unit - originally created for year 9, but easily amended for any KS3 / KS4 group. The lesson can easily be used in isolation, however. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is useful for RE or as part of a Fake News Unit, or could be used as a standalone lesson as something different for a drop-down-day. The pack includes a 1 hour long PowerPoint, differentiated challenge activities, worksheets, clips and literacy focus tasks. A lesson designed to cover the PSHE Association’s guidance concerning becoming a confident user of the NHS and accessing appropriate sources of help. It also covers how to avoid inappropriate sources of help (TikTok / Instagram health influencers / faith healers / miracle pill-pushers and so-called health gurus). Students will explore case studies where people have taken bad advice from illegitimate sources and had poor outcomes as well as investigate why self-diagnosis is such a problem online. This detailed 23 page PSHE / Citizenship workbook has been created for the new PSHE 2020 Statutory Guidance and focuses on prejudice and discrimination - in this case racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. It contains all of the information needed to learn about the topic in the first few pages, then the rest of the booklet is full of activities to complete. If you already have one of the EC Publishing, you’ll see this in your Dropbox as a new update. The booklet is differentiated and great for recording progress in PSHE.
