This resource is in two parts, so can be used for two 25 minute Tutor Time sessions. It may stretch over three if you complete all the activities. Part 1) Were the first Britons Black? This part has been created to spark your students’ interest in the origins of Britain as a multi-ethnic country. It introduces recent research on ‘Cheddar Man’, an individual discovered to be one of the first peoples of Britain, and of a group many would describe today as people of colour. In this part, students also cover how for centuries western academics grouped together completely unrelated cultures as ‘black’ and see that recent DNA discoveries have shown that there is more human genetic diversity in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa than there is in the entire rest of the world. Part 2) More of a traditional Black History session, looking at the origins of the month, back to its conception in America, the Civil Rights movement and including reading comprehension tasks and clips with differentiated questioning. This resource pack includes a one hour long PowerPoint with accompanying worksheets, well differentiated activities, literacy focus tasks, clip tasks with three-way differentiated questions and information sheets. The resources are all in the ZIP file, the images have been uploaded so you can clearly see an example on Tes of some of the contents. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is useful for PSHE, Citizenship or Tutor Time. Self Esteem How to believe in yourself and keep your head held high as the going gets tough. This lesson helps students have the emotional skills to believe in their ability to achieve and learn how to shelve those negative voices. This is a US spelling version of my Self-Esteem resource. I am uploading this as a test to see if it appears on the US website.
