A compilation of reviews and pre-play announcements taken from social media. The aim is to stimulate conversation. How do students imagine a contemporary version of the play? Characters can be cut out and students can have a go at guessing who it is. They can also have a go at writing short tweets in a similar vein about the characters. A good way to enhance their vocab in terms of adjectives. The end slide shows that the situation for some women in various parts of the world has not improved at all.

This is an ideal CLIL lesson. Students love volcanoes. Geology has lots of cognates. You can use this PowerPoint as a simple exposure to culture and French geographical features (the volcanoes of the Puy de Dome), you can also use it when you want students to talk about a visit in the past or the future. The end slides allow you to tackle prices, ask for tickets, choose what you are going to eat etc…

Throughout the UK, it is a struggle to get students to continue with languages… Many reasons for this, most of them cultural, not enough space here to go into details. This is an example of a booklet that KS3 students would keep with them relying on a system of stickers awarded (stickers could be replaced by comments) and test results. The idea is that by the time it’s options evening/ options choice time in Year 9, students would have a record of what they have achieved and how well they did. It is also good PR with parents, management etc… to show positive tracking. The document can clearly be adapted to suit any school.

Do you have Year 9 students who sadly have not chosen GCSE Spanish as an option? Is it hard to keep them going? Are they losing interest? After giving them examples of where and when they can use Spanish, you could give them these worksheets to use on every occasion and show how friendly they can be. Ranging from a simple “Hola” to “¿Qué puedo hacer para ayudarle?” Can obviously be adapted. Many subsequent exercises to keep students practising for a good three lessons.
