As we look at Chapter 12 from Tom Becker’s Darkside, we analyze Grimshaw’s Beastilia Exotica, develop some contextual understanding with regards to freak shows and Victorian attitudes towards ‘freaks’, as well as answering differentiated questions on the chapter. Fully differentiated throughout.

Eduqas English Language Paper 1 lesson that looks at Q3 and in particular sentences and how they can impact on a reader. We analyse an extract and look at how the writer has used short sentences and longer, descriptive sentences to build up a sense of a terrifying character. The lesson tries to move students away from generic, shallow answers like ‘it makes it interesting for the reader’ to more specific, in-depth analysis of sentences. Black History Month lesson that explores writing to explain and essay writing, useful for Eduqas English Language Component 2 Section B and other non-fiction exam questions. It is fully differentiated and resourced set of 2 lessons. This is ideal preparation for students getting ready for Eduqas English Language Paper 2 and the Section B non-fiction writing section. The lesson looks at essay writing but also writing to explain. Although teachers will spend a long time looking at letters, speeches or articles, the essay often gets overlooked.
