Travel Writing vocabulary - in creative writing vocabulary can be quite tricky, but this lesson supports students in improving their use of vocabulary when creating specific genre narrative pieces. Students are provided with detailed lists of synonyms for adjectives, verbs and nouns, all with a Travel Writing focus. Students use these lists to reflect on previous pieces of writing and make changes. A useful lesson for both KS3 and KS4 students, including English Language.

2023 A Christmas Carol model answer on the effects of greed - this model essay or answer is designed to hit the requirements for Grade 9 for AQA English Literature Paper 1/1N. Includes an answer that weaves together language and structure analysis, context and detailed and perceptive insights into Victorian society, how the effects of greed are presented, and Scrooge’s growing awareness of social injustice is in turn used by Dickens to communicate messages on social transformation.
Unseen Poetry 2025 revision for English Literature Paper 2 revision lesson on imagery and how the writer and speaker convey their ideas within the poem us via key images. We explore all four stanzas and the imagery used in each to help us understand the key themes of the poem and we explain how imagery helps readers to develop interpretations, helping students to prepare for the exam in the 2025 summer.

We explore Shakespeare’s The Globe Theatre and think about its layout, its structure, the different sections of the audience and the experience of visiting the theatre during the Elizabethan period. Students use their new knowledge and understanding to write their own diary entries from the viewpoint of a member of the Elizabethan audience. An excellent lesson for studying all Shakespeare texts and a great way of engaging students with historical and social context.
Nothing Changed lesson that looks at the Tatamkhulu Afrika poem and explores the use of images, sounds and vocabulary within the poem, designed for English KS3 students. We explore Apartheid, District Six and the historical context around this poem and learn how the writer uses voice, vocabulary and images to convey ideas around racism, division and anger. Includes differentiated activities, engaging activities and extensive teacher and student notes.
