This page features the 12 French pet words together with images of the animals, to support students playing the games, if required. Display on screen or print. Included with and without background colour.
FOUR IN A ROW
2 different game boards. Print and laminate. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose a pets word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box.
‘I HAVE…WHO HAS?’

AS-TU UN ANIMAL?
There are 36 game cards (18 identical pairs). Students are given a card each and must move around the room, trying to find the player with the matching card. To find this, one player asks “As-tu un animal?”. The other replies with the information on their card (e.g. “J’ai un chien et un lapin” / “J’ai deux lézards” etc) and vice versa. There are 2 versions. The first set includes French prompts for lower ability or younger students. The other is in English only.
BINGO / NOUGHTS AND CROSSES

Over 100 slides, including interactive vocabulary games, plus a PDF file of flash cards for the 18 key classroom words that are taught in the presentation. Includes 18 key classroom words.
My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in:
Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6)

The Powerpoint includes teaching points about gender / plurals of French nouns and the difference between using un / une / des , le / la / les and mon / ma / mes. It teaches children how to answer questions such as 'Qu’est-ce que c’est? (What it it?) and ‘Tu as une gomme / un crayon?’ (Do you have an eraser / pencil? etc). Includes words for door, window, chair, other furniture as well as pencil-case / schoolbag / stationery / school supplies items ( dans ma trousse / dans mon sac / mes affaires).
Due to differences between UK and US terms for some of these words, I have included 2 versions to cater for both. Please note the previews show the UK versions.
After the vocabulary has been introduced and key teaching points explained, further slides test the students’ vocabulary before the answer appears on the click of the mouse. There are tasks for students to understand and talk about what is in pencil cases and bags. Also, two interactive games are included. Un Jeu de Kim (Kim’s Game) is a memory game and works well with groups competing to be the first to write the correct French word on their whiteboard for the object that is missing. ‘Frappez les Objets’ is a ‘Splat’ game, where a small group competes to hit or point at the correct picture when the teacher says the French object. A non-interactive PDF version of the PowerPoint is also included in case you don’t have PowerPoint.
In most cases where terms differ between UK English and US English, both terms have been included.

Introduction and revision of 11 French colour (or color) words. The colours are introduced using the questions ‘C’est quelle couleur?’ (referring to the colour itself) and ‘C’est de quelle couleur?’ (referring to the colour of objects / animals etc).
My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in:
Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6)
Secondary (Key Stage 3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8)
Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada
May suit others, depending on experience
The presentation suits learners who are new or fairly new to French but it also includes teaching points about female and plural forms of the colour adjectives, which you can use if appropriate, plus an introduction to the words for ‘light’ and ‘dark’ colours. With almost 50 slides, it also includes pronunciation tips, an interactive Kim’s game and a slide for a splat game, where children can ‘splat’ the colour that’s been said in French by the teacher. Students are also invited to show the teacher classroom objects of a particular colour so if they already know the name of some classroom objects this will help. Alternatively, they could learn some for this activity. An additional US spelling version of the presentation is included.
The Four in a Row game works well in either A3 or A4 and can be used with the colour word cards. Use different colour paper or card when printing the word cards so that opponents can play with a different colour set. Students put their cards in a pile, taking the top one and choosing strategically which space to place it on (as long the colour on the space matches the word on the card!). Or laminate the board and students mark on their initial with a dry-wipe marker if they correctly say the colour in French. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - is the winner. There are also 8 cards for games of bingo and/or noughts and crosses (tic tac toe) and a 20-card ‘I Have…Who Has?’ game / Loop game. This latter resource features some light and dark versions of the colours.
The worksheet is included with and without a word bank for support. Full answer keys for the worksheet and puzzles. The printables are all in PDF format.

Students are given a card each and move around to find the player with the matching card by asking and answering questions about pets. 2 versions: the first set has French prompts for lower ability or younger students and the other set has words in English only. PRESENTATION AND FLASHCARDS
This 86 slide presentation introduces and reviews key vocabulary and phrases and includes basic reading comprehension tasks, speaking tasks such as role-plays and a 12-round interactive Reveal the Picture game. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. Please note that the interactive Reveal the Picture game is not compatible with PDF and is therefore omitted from that version. Also within the Zip file is a PDF of flashcards, with two on each page. All leisure activities covered in the presentation feature in 4 versions - infinitive and first person versions (‘aller au parc’ / ‘Je vais au parc’), both with and without backgrounds.
VOCABULARY SUPPORT PAGES
7 vocabulary support sheets in different versions to display or print, depending on whether your students require them. Includes key phrases, questions, how to say likes and dislikes, how often etc. Please note these support sheets are included in both the worksheets packet and the games packet.
WORKSHEETS AND CROSSWORD PUZZLE
6 worksheets (with answer keys). Worksheet 1-3 come in one-and two-star versions, with one-star being for lower ability, younger, or less experienced students. Worksheets 4 and 5 are basic comprehension worksheets, with 5 being a little more challenging. They feature different texts and could be used for differentiation or to provide progression for the same students if required. Worksheet 6 is a differentiated crossword puzzle where the clues involve students filling in the blanks in French hobbies phrases beginning with ‘J’aime…’. The one-star version contains a word bank for support. You can print or display the answer key for student self-checking if required.
ACTIVE ORAL CARD GAME
This is a game to get students out of their seats, having short conversations about recreational activities. There are 36 game cards (2 of each design). Students are given a card each and must move around the room, trying to find the player with the matching card. To find this, one player asks “Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire pendant ton temps libre?”. The other replies with the information on their card (e.g. “J’aime cuisiner et jouer du piano.”). The second player can then ask the same question or use “Et toi?” (“And you?”) before the first player replies with the two activities on their card. If their information matches, they could say “Moi aussi!” (“Me too!”). Students who find their match could sit down to make it easier for remaining players to find their match. Versions included with French and English prompts.
SERPENTS ET ECHELLES
3 different game boards (2 standard boards for practice of hobbies phrases and one for saying how often we do activities). Print and laminate the ones you require. Works well in A3 (11 x 17) for larger groups but A4 (Letter) is good too.
FOUR IN A ROW GAMES
2 different game boards. Print and laminate. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students roll dice, then choose an activity word from that number column and say it in French. If correct, use a dry-wipe marker to put a symbol or initial in that box (opponents could use a different colour dry-wipe marker), and so on.
BINGO / TIC TAC TOE CARDS
Use these 16 different cards for a group game of Bingo in pairs (the teacher or a student could read out French hobby words) or Tic Tac Toe / Noughts and Crosses, with students taking it in turns to say aloud a French hobby word from their card. If cards are laminated, students could write on them with a dry-wipe marker.
