(In the rounding puzzles students find the numbers that don’t round to specified target numbers and in some of the fractions puzzles, students must find non-equivalent fractions etc). In many puzzles there is an extension question / challenge linked to the hidden word, which in some cases may require a little research if time.

Rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, whole number, 1 decimal place, 2 decimal places and rounding to the nearest pound. These PDF format Maths / Numeracy activities are ideal for early finishers, starters / warm ups, and homework too. Use for revision and consolidation, as part of a place value unit, or for meaningful fun at other times. An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these Hidden Word puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. All solutions provided. If you wish, laminate for repeated use and write on them with whiteboard pens. In Scotland, it's ideal for Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7.
Contains 7 and their solutions: rounding 2-digit numbers to the nearest ten, 3-digit numbers to the nearest hundred, 4-digit numbers to the nearest thousand and various size decimal numbers to the nearest whole number, 1 decimal place and 2 decimal places. Puzzle 7 comes in two versions - rounding to the nearest pound / rounding to the nearest dollar.
These puzzles are similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after the rounding work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a number to be rounded and a letter. Once students have rounded all the numbers, they cross out any boxes containing numbers that round to certain specified target numbers (whether it is to the nearest 10, 1 decimal place etc). Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. If the word is more simple, the letters are in random order for students to reassemble. If it is a trickier word (such as a famous mathematician), the letters are already placed in the correct order in the grid. There is a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the hidden word.
The range of puzzles in this resource is ideal for differentiation and revision and / or to cater for a range of groups and classes.

Starting at the top illustration and working their way around the card in a spiral, children write the answer to each calculation in the box, creating a running total as they go. The final answer is printed at the end of the trail, beside the illustration in the middle of the card, so they can see if they have correctly completed it. Key Stage 2 (KS2) Literacy / SPaG revision activities to use when recapping the basics of what makes a sentence to help students work out where to put full stops and capital letters. This grammar and punctuation (SPaG) activity provides revision of punctuating sentences with full stops and capital letters for Year 4, 5 and 6 (Y4, Y5 and Y6). There are 40 differentiated full stops and capital letters self-check sentences cards for independent or paired work. PDF format in a Zip file.
Regular use helps students avoid fragments and run on sentences in their own writing and recognise where sentences begin and end
Encourages students to use editing and proofreading skills
Use as a regular starter or early finisher activity or main task in a grammar lesson
30 middle / higher ability cards and a separate set of 10 for lower ability
MA and HA cards are the same, only the MA version gives a hint about the number of sentences to find
LA version has more basic sentences and shorter texts
Designed to be printed back to back with answer side (changes printed in red) so students can self-check
Answer sides could be printed separately instead
Best printed in colour but answers are in bold so okay in black and white too
NO PRINT OPTION: Why not display cards on the board as a regular whole class activity? Students could write the first word of each identified sentence on a whiteboard.
Front sides have a short, engaging paragraph with no full stops and capital letters. If cards are laminated, students could mark them on. They could also write text out if you wish, before self-marking.
Students must start proper nouns with capitals, though as the focus is sentence demarcation, I have kept these to a minimum.
Small number of commas also missing. These have been added to answer sides but not in red as they are not the focus.
Dyslexia-friendly font and spacing used, together with pastel background
All files also included without background
Non-pastel background versions could be printed on pastel paper

Spelling Games and Puzzles Year 5 / 6
Fun Key Stage 2 place value puzzles challenges, great for early finishers activities, starter tasks, revision and homework, originally designed for Year 4, 5 and 6 (Y4, Y5 and Y6) Maths / Numeracy. There are 2 fun crossnumber puzzles for revision of numbers up to 5 digits / ten thousands, 2 puzzles for numbers up to 6 digits / one hundred thousands, and 2 puzzles for numbers up to 7 digits / millions. For each of 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers the first puzzle is for practising reading the word version and writing the digit version in the grid, while the second, more challenging puzzle for each involves adding and subtracting from large numbers (increase by 1000, take away five hundred thousand etc). These more challenging place value mental maths puzzles use a mixture of words and digits for the given calculations, with pupils entering digits in the grid as before. This PDF file contains the 6 puzzles and full solutions. In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 5, 6 and 7.
These Numeracy puzzles are an engaging alternative to standard worksheets and should help pupils consolidate their understanding of place value in a fun way. This pack also provides good differentiation and revision opportunities and could be used across different age groups / classes.
You can get these puzzles alongside my other Place Value activities and games (large differentiated sets of self-check Place Value trails for 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers and also decimals Place Value games) in this good value bundle: KS2 Place Value Activities Bundle

A low-prep giant Roald Dahl crossword quiz puzzle, designed to be completed in groups, featuring 110 quiz style clues related to almost all Dahl's children's stories and poetry books and a few related to the writer's life. Great for Roald Dahl Day (September 13th), special reading events, end or start of term fun, at the end of a Roald Dahl author study or just as a Dahl celebration because almost all children love this author and his quirky characters! Why not use it as an early finisher activity, to be completed over several lessons? Suits Key Stage 2 (KS2) - Year 5 / Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) especially or early KS3 - Year 7 (Y7)and equivalents.
Collaborative completion works especially well as it will spark off informal reading chats as children compete against other groups to finish it, pooling knowledge of this popular children's author's texts - his stories, poems and works of autobiography. Children could research any questions they do not know. In addition to the Solution, I have also included an Answer Sheet with the answers listed in alphabetical order to give out for differentiation or when students have done as much as they can. You could print the crossword in A3 but it works fine in A4 too.
If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks.

Fun fast finisher activities and starter tasks! Designed for Upper KS2 Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 and Y6), this is a BUNDLE of printable, well-differentiated Four in a Row Game Boards for starters, warm ups and early finisher activities in Maths / Numeracy lessons. Great for revision or consolidation of new concepts. Includes games for Area, Money, Doubles and Halves, Times Tables and Decimal Numbers (Place Value). In Scotland, suits Second Level Maths - Primary 6 and 7.
Expand your bank of Key Stage 2 games with this great value BUNDLE of easy-to-prepare, fun and strategic 4-in-a-rows. Most just require printing and laminating. I recommend printing in A3 but A4 would be okay too. You might need to quickly adjust printer settings with some of the files. Laminate games to use again and again, with children writing on the boards with a dry-wipe marker / whiteboard pen.
INSTRUCTIONS: Two children (or two pairs of children) take it in turns to write an answer in a box. Ideally they use a different colour whiteboard pen, however if this is not possible they could add an initial or symbol each time too. First to get 4 in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - is the winner. The games work especially well if students roll a dice to determine which column they should answer a question from. The columns are numbered 1-6. If the column is already completed, they could either miss a go or roll again.
You can find previews and more information about each resource that is included in this bundle if you click on them but here are some details:
CHANGE FOR £20
2 standard game boards and 2 lower ability boards. Children roll dice to find out which column they can do a calculation in and then must work out the change required for £20 for one of the items pictured and priced in that column. Children write on the change using different colour whiteboard pens or add their initials. All answers included.
DOUBLES AND HALVES
10 boards to consolidate doubling and halving of two and three digit numbers. Includes a one-star version of both the doubling and halving game for younger or lower ability pupils - sidebars are included, featuring all answers, which children can strike through when used. It’s also included without the answer sidebars in case your pupils don’t need this added support. This version focuses on lower 2-digit numbers and multiples of 10. Then there’s four different, more challenging versions of both the doubling and halving boards (two and three-star versions). All answers included. Play as the money game above.
AREA
3 differentiated boards: One-star version - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. No conversion required. Two-star version – as above but with more challenging calculations. Some conversion required between centimetres, metres etc. Includes decimal lengths and breadths. Three-star version - area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound shapes. Some conversion required. Includes decimal lengths and breadths and more challenging calculations. Some of the compound shapes require children to work out the length of a side, using other given sides, before they can work out the area. Children will be able to do some of the calculations mentally but could use paper or mini whiteboards to work out the more challenging ones before writing in the answer on the grid.
TIMES TABLES
4 Times Table Boards in colour and black and white versions. All 4 available in LA supported versions (with answer sideboards), standard version (2-9 times tables) and in a version with 11 and 12 times tables added. Use whiteboard pens as in the games above.
DECIMAL PLACE VALUE
Consolidate place value to 2 or 3 decimal places. 2 differentiated boards: The 1 star board was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. For use with this game are two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places).
I hope these resources save you time and help your students learn in a fun way. Thank you so much if you are able to spare the time to review them on TES.
