This 1-2 HOUR resource starts by investigating the UK’s links to the rest of the world. Pupils undertake a map analysis task, to show how electronic communications are distributed globally. A skills based task is also used to show changes to UK migration over time. Pupils then use cards to highlight the benefits and problems of EU membership. A debate style exercise is used to allow students to express their own ideas. The importance of the Commonwealth is also considered.

Thought providing cartoons are used to prompt children of the key issues. Students will then take part in a market place task, to learn what these differences are and why they exist. Finally students are to research the government’s solution to this divide.

Students learn how smart motorways can aid traffic flow and reduce congestion. The pupil’s debate over the benefits of HS2, thought a verbal tennis game and paired exercise. Liverpool 2 is the focus for sea improvements, while Heathrow is the example used to overview improvements to airport infrastructure.

This fun and engaging 1-2 HOUR lesson teaches pupils about types of renewable and non-renewable energy through a ’ ‘trump’ style exercise. Pupils will use the information booklets provided to create their own trumps cards! They will then shuffle their decks and play against each other until one champion is left.

This TWO HOUR resource investigates the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy. This pack contains a fun kinaesthetic activity, where pupils are required to engage with their fellow peers to match their card to its definition, picture and classification. The lesson teaches pupils how fossil fuels are formed over millions of years, as well as how they are used. The independent writing task requires half the pupils to create an argument for renewables, while the other half argue against them. This is then presented in a debate style presentation, where the class votes for the most convincing argument. A marking grid and writing fame for less able pupils is provided, along with an information sheet to help pupils construct their arguments.
