We are two Primary teachers, each with 22 years experience, teaching from Early Years, Years 1,2,3,4,5, and 6, in addition to Senior Manager roles, in public and private schools. This has given us an in-depth knowledge of how children progress throughout their school life and a strong understanding of the whole learning process. Between us, we have also spent a number of years as whole school Leader of Reading & Writing and whole school Leader of Maths.

Two lessons giving children the chance to practice finding change. Plan for 2 lessons and 3 differentiated challenge sheets included. Lesson 1 - A practical lesson where partners take turns to buy an item. The shopkeeper must work out and give the correct change. Lesson 2 - Children must work out how much change is due after buying different objects from the worksheets. Record as a number sentence in books. A whole lesson including plan, smart notebook with intro and plenary and 3 differentiated worksheets! Children spend either 9p, 18p, 45p, depending on challenge. They must decide how to pay using different coins. They must find all possible ways to pay! E.g. 9p = 5p + 2p + 2p. Teach Mental Math the fun way! 4 differentiated mental math board games. Children take it in turns to roll a die and move their counter around the board. They must solve the sum they land on or move back to where they were! Their partner checks using a calculator. First to the finish wins! The 4 levels are; BRONZE - Adding 10s and 1s to one and two digit numbers SILVER - Adding 10s and 1s to three digit numbers GOLD - Adding 100s, 10s and 1s to three digit numbers PLATINUM - Adding 100s, 10s and 1s to four digit numbers I have used this recently with my class of 7 & 8 year olds, they LOVED it!
