The purpose of this unit of work is two write two contrasting descriptive narratives (using the pictures in the text as stimulus). Children will learn how to write figuratively, using linguistic devices to ‘show not tell’ the reader what they can see in the scene. They will explore, simile, metaphor, alliteration, pathetic fallacy (HA) and personification. They will also the character of Rose through hot seating activities and they will explore the themes of the book using the front cover as inference. PPT, resources and weekly planning (with differentiated activities) included.

Year 6 - 4 week unit of work finishing with a formal, persuasive letter writing to apply for position of school prefect. Skills based lessons covered: writing to persuade fact and opinion superlatives cohesive devices formal and informal Also includes scaffolds and WAGOLL of the drafting process along with an editing checklist.

3 week’s worth of planning based on the book Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker. Planning includes opportunties for drama, newspaper and letter writing. All lessons differentiated and suitable for the Year 3 Writing curriculum .

Novel as a theme - revolving around Dahl’s Matilda. In the 3 week planning there are opportunities for children to write instructions, write character descriptions, diary entries. There are also freeze frame, drama opportunities and an a chance to put Miss Trunchbull and Mr Wormwood on trial for their actions. Tasks are differentiated and linked to national curriculum.

Whole unit of work focussed on smoothies, healthy eating and persuasive writing. Tasks are differentiated and planned around the national curriculum. There are opportunites for children to create perusasive posters, create adverts - both as a script or perfomed on green screen. Planning could link to DT - children create the smoothie they designed? Resouces included.

2 weeks lesson planning around Rudyard Kipling Year 6. Plans include starters, learning objectives, curriculum links. Work is differentiated and includes creative opportunities if you have access to iPads. Great skills based lessons with great outcomes - great SATs writing!
