My students voted this as their most useful revision resource for A Christmas Carol. First ask students to annotate the top 50 quotations in the text and then give out the answer sheet to check their responses. Differentiated PowerPoint with learning outcomes to help students answer the following question based on Chapter 8 and 9 of Oliver Twist: To what extent is Fagin an out and out villain? Lower ability students will look at how Fagin is an absolute villain. Higher ability students will also look at his redeeming qualities. Also includes a model response to annotate to help students improve their second draft or respond to feedback.

Sheet 1: A list of key stage directions for each character split into before, during and after the interrogation combined with questions to help students understand the subtle changes in the characters’ behaviour at each stage of the play. Sheet 2: Differentiated questions linking to A01, A02, A03 based on the opening stage directions.

A grade 9 exam response answering a question about Scrooge’s fears in A Christmas Carol. I have also included a writing frame that I used with a much lower ability class (target grades 4 and 5).

Resources for 2 lessons or 1 lesson and a homework based on music for ensemble (musical theatre). Students must define terminology associated with musical theatre and then categorise this onto a summary sheet (answers on the pp). There are also 4 listening questions with answers with you tube links on the pp. 2 of these are based on the longer answers and firstly ask students to make notes on each section (a hint sheet is available) and then put this into continuous prose to be marked according to a SAMS mark scheme. Differentiated tasks are including for all stages of the lesson.

An essay plan with suggested answers on the character of Eric Birling. The PowerPoint lesson gives a basic introduction about the character of Eric and is suitable for lower ability students. The planning sheet is more suited to pushing higher-attaining students. Also contains a 10 quotation revision sheet and a blank template for students to have a go at explaining the quotations first.
