Parent guide to support children with reading beyond initial word reading - questions to ask based on the reading domains with explanation to support parent’s understanding.
INTRO
Lots of us are comfortable supporting the very earliest stages of reading - but once the children are reading fluently and starting to engage with longer chapter books, we can feel a bit lost about how to continue to support them as readers.
It is still VITAL that parents read with their children throughout key stage 2 - this guide gives some support and overview of the key reading skills that are required for successful readers and specific questions that you can ask to support your child’s reading.
A brief summary of grammar in KS2 with clear and simple explanations for parents - not an exhaustive list but a good summary resource for those who have perhaps not looked at grammar in a while
4 pages of flashcards which cover the year 3/4/5/6 appendices which can be printed off and turned into key chains for children to refer to - or test each other as an independent spelling activity
Common grammar term flashcards - including cards without definitions to be used for question and recall.
18 cards in totals if made double sided.
Cards would need to be printed and then cut up.
