This is an excellent Scheme of Work designed by myself, it covers Units 1- Introduction to Specialist Pathways in Art and Design, Unit 3- Communicating Ideas in 2D and Unit 6- Investigating Contextual References in Art & Design, by covering these units and Unit 2 (Exam) learners can aim to achive BTEC Level 1/Level2 First Award in Art and Design.
This SOW has recently been externally verified and was considered to be a very creative and intresting project for all abilities. I have taught BTEC Art and Design for many years tailoring this project to perfection to ensure that all my learners enjoy the course and are given every possible opportunity to succeed. I have selected a diverse range of artists and illustrators to capture my learners imagination and develeop their skills in a range of disciplines such as painting and drawing, printmaking, Typograpy, Sculpture and Digital Art. Whilst the exam body recommend to teach unit by unit I personally prefer to deliver the course as one big project as it suited my learners needs better, but this does make it a little difficult to assess unit by unit but it is not impossible.
The focus of the design brief:
As a Graphic designer and an accomplished musician, You have been commissioned by the your towns local Gallery to create a series of Celebrity and Self- portraits underpinned with the Theme of Music and mixed media, you will need to incorporate social, political and the emotional narratives.
As part of the process you will be expected to develop preparatory work exploring your musical identity and the portrait as a primary resource, whilst exploring the work of a variety of artists.
Final Pieces may include:
• Canvas studies
• Sketchbook work
• Prints
• Photographs
• Photoshop outcomes
You will develop an understanding through exploration, of a variety of traditional studio media and materials, computer aided media, photographic materials focusing on both 2D AND 3D. You will also explore techniques and process using Photoshop. There will be opportunity to make contextual links with other artists and graphic designers, which may have explored similar subject matter or influence your design ideas.
Hope you enjoy delivering the SOW just as much as I have.
Fantastic Resource which includes 5 worksheets which gets your learners to research the artists work and analyse it, followed by recreating the artwork in differnt ways.
Enjoy, my learners love these sheets.
Excellent Bertone worksheets for learners to:
1. Analyse the artists work through written annotations

Develop your pupils skills creating Kandinsky inspired artwork with 'Extend an Art work' using level led learning objectives and success criteria to finally produce a press print which demonstrates sucess criteria for national curriculum level 3, 4 and 5 with additional step to success, to support your learners needs. This resource also includes self and peer assessment and a homework sheet.
An excellent resource that I'm currently using with my year 11 students, the resource allows the students to develop upon their artist research creating a range of skateboard and t-shirt designs both hand drawn and digitally to produce final outcome peices that they will make during the all day mock exam.
