A word bank of alternatives to the word ‘said’. This word list is a useful resource for pupils who are learning to write direct speech and as a word mat when writing fiction, especially dialogues. The synonyms for ‘said’ are grouped into categories to make pupils’ selection of the most appropriate word easier and quicker. The word bank can be printed back-to-back onto A4 to be used as a handy desk-top resource or enlarged onto A3 paper and displayed on the wall of your classroom.
