Pupils examine the personalities of Chaya, Neel and Nour in this character trait matching exercise. Pupils match the names of the three main characters from The Girl Who Stole An Elephant by Nizrana Farook with character traits, evidence from the text, and an explanation (PEE). The quotes from the text have been provided, character traits with definitions, alongside the explanations. This resource has been differentiated three ways: • Higher ability: 9 quotes, character traits and explanations have been provided. • Middle ability: 9 quotes, character traits with definitions and explanations have been provided. • Lower ability: 9 character traits with definitions and explanations have been provided. This activity is a great way for pupils to think carefully about how a character’s personality is revealed by what they do and how they react in a story. This gives pupils an opportunity to use their inference skills and familiarises pupils with Point, Evidence and Explanation. All quotes are taken from chapters 1-16 of the adventure story. Answer sheets have also been included. After the matching activity, pupils plan and write a character profile using the writing template provided.
