An example informal letter from the point of view of Muggle-Wump the monkey from the children’s novel The Twits by Roald Dahl.
This exemplar informal letter is perfect to use as a WAGOLL when studying Chapter 14-17 of the text.
The model informal letter comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to fill in, plus answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. The worksheets can be easily adjusted to match the ability of your class and provide differentiation.
After identifying the features in the model text, pupils can write their own informal letter from Muggle-Wump, the Roly-Poly Bird, one of the boys, Mr Twit or Mrs Twit’s point of view, based on the example text.

This collection of verbs commonly used when cooking or writing recipes are useful for pupils writing instructions or recipes and for ESL students speaking or writing about cooking.
The sheets comprise of 30 cooking verbs. Each verb comes with a definition, accompanying photo and sentence containing the key word.
These cards can be printed double-sided onto A3 for a handy help sheet, or onto A4 to be cut into cards and distributed to pupils/students according to ability. They can also be made into booklets or display posters.
The verbs are arranged alphabetically and each word is used as an imperative verb in an imperative sentence.

Pupils can read the example diary entry, identify the features and then write one of the following, including appropriate features in their writing:
✽ Their own version of Hiccup’s diary entry
✽ A diary written by another character, such as Fishlegs, Snotlout or Gobber
✽ A diary entry for the next day (either without reading the subsequent chapters, therefore using prediction, or after reading the subsequent chapters)
✽ A series of diary entries for the following days

Two activities involving identifying correctly and incorrectly punctuated possessive nouns. Pupils must look carefully at the sentences to check if the apostrophes have been put in the correct place for a variety of possessive nouns.
There are two activities provided:
✽ Apostrophes in Possessive Nouns Cards/Quiz: pupils sort the cards into correct and incorrect piles. Great for paired or small group work. Large and small cards are provided, plus a presentation to use to go through the answers or to use as a whole class quiz.
✽ Apostrophes in Possessive Nouns Worksheet: pupils identify whether the apostrophes are correctly punctuating the possessive nouns, and then make any necessary corrections; identify possession as singular, regular plural and irregular plural; add missing apostrophes to sentences and write a paragraph including their own possessive nouns. Great as an independent task. This worksheet uses different examples to the cards/quiz.
Different formats of possessive nouns are given as examples, including:
• Singular possession with one item being possessed
• Singular possession with more than one item being possessed
• Regular plural possession with one item being possessed
• Regular plural possession with more than one item being possessed
• Irregular plural possession with one item being possessed
• Irregular plural possession with more than one item being possessed
Answers to all tasks are included.

These activities are suitable for years 4, 5 or 6.

The possessive apostrophe worksheets are differentiated three ways. They contain a variety of possessive apostrophe activities to develop pupils’ knowledge of possessive apostrophes and improve their skills in using possessive apostrophes in their writing. The worksheet focuses on Chapters 1, 2 & 3 of Cressida Cowell’s popular novel, How To Train Your Dragon, but can be used at any point after reading Chapter 3.

An example character profile text about Viking Hooligan Hiccup from the children’s novel How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell.
This exemplar character description of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is perfect to use as a WAGOLL.
The model character profile comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to fill in, plus answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class.
