As Creative Curriculum lead, I have redesigned topics to suit a knowledge and vocabulary driven curriculum. I will share full units of work across History, Geography, Art and Design & Technology. These show clear focuses on skills, knowledge covered and pupil outcomes through classroom based learning. There are also Topic Covers which complement the units of work, highlighting targeted vocabulary and key facts for the children to focus on and revisit throughout the unit.

Within this resource, I have included a Topic Cover page (which includes targeted vocabulary and key facts) and a scheme of work which shows the progression of knowledge and learning intentions. The main focuses: the settlement of the kingdoms Lifestyle, culture and beliefs trade and the influences of Europe These lessons have been taught to a Year 5 class. At the end of the unit, the children will complete an assessment task which looks to answer the question that the unit has been designed around - Why is it incorrect to describe the Benin Empire as uncivilised? It has been taught with a 6 week half term in mind, but could be condensed into a shorter unit.
