Students complete a 'Silent Debate' in response to a thought provoking statement about the play. The lesson includes several statements for students to debate, alongside examples of work. Students then use the debate work to write up an essay.

At least 2/3 lessons of work. Students consider the difference in attitudes between the younger and older generations. Quote explosions to explore the different generation’s attitudes and ideas towards responsibility. Students complete essay question using worksheets and scaffolding within the lessons.

An assessment created for Year 7 students. Section A = Comprehension questions focussing on two extracts from the story. Section B = Students answer an essay style question based on an extract from the final scenes. Mark scheme included for Section A. Success criteria included for students. Can all be edited.

An engaging and interactive lesson in which students gather information about poet Thomas Hardy. Students conduct guided research before sharing their findings with their partner. The use of iPads or a device would benefit the student research although this is not essential as information about Hardy is already provided.
