Year 1 Homes from the Past Unit on PowerPoint

(12)
I created this PowerPoint to teach the Homes from the Past history unit to my Year 1s. It contains teaching material such as photos and captions, links to interactive websites, etc. At the end of the PowerPoint is a small unit on Homes around the World, a geography unit.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

I made a Powerpoint to tell the story of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The story has a powerful message about friendship and being selfless, as well as being kind to others. I have also uploaded a simple worksheet that my class used as a story map, recreating the story in a comic strip style.

I made this PowerPoint to teach the Year 3 Light and Shadows unit. It contains enough learning objectives for a full half term and activities for each lesson.

Continuous provision - Characters and settings.

I made a 'character drawer&', full of brightly coloured laminated well known characters (from children&';s literature, Disney, Pixar, etc), and a 'settings drawer&', full of laminated A4 sheets showing all sorts of different settings, including photographs, animated and multicultural scenes. The idea is that children choose a character/characters and a setting, and write an imaginative story or some sentences. I also included tiny flashcards saying each of the characters names, so the children can match up the pictures with the words.

Year 2 - Dividing by 2, 5 and 3

(18)
Differentiated division activities, enough for two sessions. The first activity introduces division, the second activity includes division with remainders. Both intended as adult led activities, but could be practise once children have been taught the skills.
Persuasive writing and letter writing.

Persuasive writing and letter writing.

(27)
I wanted to enrage my Year 3 children in order to encourage them to do some brilliant persuasive writing, so I mocked up a letter from 'Bruce Boggington&', the chief director of a pickled onion factory, who wrote to the children explaining that he would be building his new factory all over their school field. The children were suitably outraged by the letter and produced some great writing, with lots of good points!

Year 1 spot the difference - early morning work.

(22)
I wanted an activity that my Y1 children could access independently whilst sitting on the carpet before the register first thing in the morning. I put together a selection of 'spot the difference' activities, to encourage quiet teamwork, counting and observation skills, and to allow me time to talk to parents etc if I need to.
Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn quiz & freezeframe.

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn quiz & freezeframe.

This powerpoint spans history, PHSE and P4C. The children answered all the questions on the slides about Henry's wives (once the slideshow is running, you can circle the right answer on each slide by right clicking -> pointer options -> selecting a pen). Then a selection of children came up to the front of the class, whilst the others 'directed' them as to how the freezeframe should look. Once the freezeframe was perfected, other children came out and held laminated speech bubbles and thought bubbles around the characters. Finally we took a photo.

Fun sorting activity - Bar graphs and tally charts

(9)
3 x differentiated activity to help children practice their data handling skills. LA children have a poster of aliens to count, sort and record on a bar graph. MA children have a larger selection of toys on a poster to tally then record on a bar graph. HA children have higher numbers of different types of food on a poster to tally then record on a bar graph. There are also questions on the data for the children to answer afterwards.

I made this powerpoint to help my Year 4's learn about Henry VIII's six wives. It's a little jokey but gets the main points across!
Silly Dinosaur Poems and worksheet.

Silly Dinosaur Poems and worksheet.

(17)
Powerpoint containing two poems that can be used for the Silly Stuff poetry unit in Year 2. I also made a story map (or poem map!) to go with the poem, differentiated for lower and higher pupils. Hope it can be helpful for somebody.

Teeth and Eating Science Unit - Animal teeth

A look at the different teeth and skulls of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. The skulls on the sheet are (from top to bottom): Horse (Herbivore - Flat molars for grinding plants) Rabbit (Herbivore - Sharp canines for nibbling) Wolf (Carnivore - Pointed canines and incisors) Sealion (Omnivore - Eats fish and plants - Flat molars and pointed canines). The children wrote information about each picture in the speech bubbles: 'I have flat molars for grinding plants', etc.

Riddles and Tongue-twisters

I made this powerpoint for those few minutes that appear every now and again during the school day, just before dinner or breaktime or if the children just really need a quick break. I have used it countless times since I started teaching and it has always been popular with the kids, I used to leave them with a riddle 'cliffhanger&' - Sending them out to break without revealing the answer, they&';d spend all breaktime discussing what the answer could possibly be!

Fables PowerPoint

(10)
Four traditional fables: The Ant and the Grasshopper The Hunter, the Horse and the Stag The Hare and the Tortoise The Goose that laid Golden Eggs The children used the planning sheet to plan their own writing based on one of these four traditional fables, and then I displayed their writing underneath the 'Fables' display sign.

The story of King Arthur displayed on a PowerPoint. I used this for a year 3 class for our Myths and Legends literacy unit. We went on to plan and write our own adventure stories based on Arthur.
